Is it ok to own a trademark domain and do nothing with it?

NO. It was a bad faith registration IMO simply because you knew it was TM'd. Now since you posted it here, and it has been indexed, there is forever a record of your admitting you knew it was a TM term. That is further evidence of bad faith. Of course given the scenario, the next logical question is why you want it if you aren't doing anything but forwarding it?

You wonder why domainers have a bad rep ? Because domaining is perceived to be a form of extortion - which is the case here.

please guys i checked the term "domain name" for TM and got 77 records with domain name+words.will it be wrong to use those two words(domain name) ?

When in doubt, stay away...

Besides, why not invest in names that do not pose obvious TM issues and have a larger pool of possible end users ?

To answer the questions- I actually reg'd it planning to make some sort of fan site there, which I thought would bypass the bad faith stuff. But then I realized that I wouldn't be able to put ads or make any monetary benefit out of it, which sucks.
Now I'm just asking whether its ok to keep it until it expires, which might make me some money vs deleting it.

If he is parked at GD, Sedo, Bodis... that is already bad fait and it is very easy to prove it, one screenshot from your landing page will be enough.

@Kate, please for the knowledge. is "domain name" not a generic term? 'cause the 77 records in uspto.gov for that are mostly a sentence-long but contains the term "domain name" in them. that's the point i want clarification on since we all use this term all the time. thanks

I don't think you are understanding the concept of TM's.

Right or wrong, if you buy a TM domain and have nothing on it or just a default landing page in the hopes of selling it by someone out of the blue wanting it will more than likely just cost you reg & renewal fees.

If the TM holder really wants it he'll do a UDRP most of the time and other would be buyers might see it's a TM and not even contact you about it. Better to save your money and use it to buy domains where TM's aren't an issue, potentially or otherwise.
