Thanks for the comment. Actually, I have to confess that in many cases I have pushed the domain before payment and have never had a problem. Yes, I know it is risky, and I do not want to recommend it, but in my case it has worked. I started doing it when I saw some potential buyers needed reassurance that the sale is not a scam.

Which service do you use for drop lists and by drop list you mean the domains which are available to be regged or back order?

When selling City/Service names this is key. This decision should be a no-brainer that they don't need to think about or ask for opinions.

When I have sold these type of names they have sold very quickly

If using Paypal for the transaction, I love the idea of sending invoices. I use to use them a lot for other transaction I did in the past. Makes everything easier, especially during tax time because Paypal keeps everything in order.

But I don't know if I would use Paypal for transactions of $500+. May want to go with Escrow for those.

I totally agree. In reference to using Escrow for transactions over $500, that is also what I do, but may use PayPal if I am dealing with a trustworthy party or a well-known company. The highest transaction I have conducted through PayPal is $1500.

have you ever sold geo .NETs? i picked up a few lawyer-related ones, similar .coms are taken even for tiny cities, and these .NETs have long history of being registered on and off (8-10 ears each).

Care to share an example email you send out. Cheers

I was able to sell my .net for 420$ within 5 days of regging.

A lot of people have problems with Paypal holding their money. Also charge-backs can be a problem and Paypal always sides with the customer.There are people who will buy a name from you and get their money back even months later.

I would rather use Escrow.com and pay the Escrow fee myself than use Paypal for anything.

I never use Paypal to collect money.

The way I look at it if you only pay regfee for a name or even a little more, it is still a nice profit even if you have to swallow an escrow fee to be sure you won't have a charge back down the road. And you know the money is safely yours.

Do a google search for Paypal complaints and you will see pages and pages of nightmare situations where Paypal has held thousands of dollars of peoples money and you are helpless against a big company.

They just settled a class action suit for holding peoples money and they screwed a lot of people.

Reading their new terms it seems as if little was changed and they could still do business the same way in the future and get away with it. The payout for the lawsuit was nothing compared to their yearly revenue, so it was like a slap on the wrist to them

I know there are members here who have used Paypal for years and have no complaints but that could change for them at any time.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your comments in response to my post. Here are some points in response to some of the questions you have raised:

I prefer to stick to .COM. At some point I attempted to do the same with .NET, but did not succeed. Have in mind that end-users are buying .COM from me even when the .NET is available. They see the .COM as the name to own.

In reference to sharing a sample email, this is something I have done before, but prefer to do it via PM. If you need to see a sample of the email, feel free to send me a PM.

Yes, I am with you on your assessment of PayPal and how it is risky to use it, as opposed to Escrow. My logic behind it is that a business owner (which is the bulk of my clientele), are generally not going to expose themselves to damage to their reputation by doing a charge back. It has never happened to me with the sale of domain names.

I did suffer a charge back with some litecoins I sold on Ebay, but never with domain names, and I have conducted hundreds of domain transactions. But, again, you skepticism is well taken because I recognize that PayPal is risky for the seller of digital goods. If there is a charge back, they will almost always side with the buyer.

Or what software I can use for this? I am not talking about anything that involves sending mass emails or some automated email blast.

I think streak .com is your answer, but it works on Gmail system, so you'll have to add your companydomain to gmail to send emails, and to track when your emails were open, if they were opened.

I don't know of any software that allows you to track email sent from your own domain through your hosting service, but with Gmail you can use either SideKick or Streak.

How long do you wait before you approach an end user for your hand regs? Any sample email? I have one I use and it usually gets a response but I was just curious as to what you go with.
