Got this one the other day from the drop. I've been focusing a lot on .co.uk recently - it's my local market and one that tends to sell relatively well.

This is taken in all popular extensions. Direct marketing is commonplace in the UK, although this domain could be used in a variety of contexts, such as wholesale goods.

Domain was reg'd in 1999 originally.

Any ideas on value for this one?

Nice domain, I'd estimate mid xxx.

It's nice domain but the UK folks aren't savvy spenders on domain name. I have Super Forex in that extension.

It's a decent name, though it'd be a hard sell without its matching .uk - I would always try to pick up both.

Not savvy? How so?

They are not free spenders... technically, I don't like going near UK folks when it comes to domain sales. Their perception to spending is just not it for me. I once had a nasty experience with one in 2013 after transferring domain and they secured it... next was stories about "we will pay but I don't when" wtf? I was so infuriated that day... I made sure that lady in question know she was dealing with full blooded Nigerian.

I got paid after much back and forth

I assure you, anyone I've dealt with in the UK marketplace has been highly professional. While I loosely agree with you that UK domainers 'are not free spenders', they know what they want and are well prepared to spend to secure the sales. The UK market is one which needs to be studied well before trying to sell in it. If you know what sells, money can be made.

I don't see where being savvy comes into the equation, or maybe we both have different definitions for the word.

While it's unfortunate that you had a bad experience, that one person doesn't represent UK domainers as a whole and it is somewhat unfair to generalise. Maybe you should have secured payment first? I always do, no matter who I deal with.

Anyway, this is off topic. Good luck with the domain Gareth.

Agree with all the above - reasonably nice connected words But really just a Short-Change on 'DirectMarketing' if we're honest and that's all it is
The trouble with our UK market - IS the Shared language with the Yanks - Are we .com/net/org or are we co.uk. Be buggered If the Brits Know themselves. I Consider the internet domain system a bit of a Pay-Back by the Yanks on every/anything they didn't like they inherited from us (theBrits).
.co.uk's can/are a bugger to sell - after 15 years I guessing I'm just at breakeven on them.
PS - they can turn a penny on Parking - Just Slow Profit

,
Sorry - I did mean to say An 'intentional - Payback' - bit like what we shipped over in the first place. PS I pretty much lov'em all, including NewYorkers.

Getting back to the UK domain Market - It is a Subdued extension Purely because of a Split .com Personality

Some interesting (and surprising) viewpoints on the extension.
Regardless of the strength of the domain, I'm glad to have started a discussion on national identity. :)

As far as I'm aware, .uk is still the 4th most popular TLD worldwide, and the most popular version of it by far is .co.uk.

Most businesses in the UK will use a .co.uk as their preferred primary domain.

For sure.

My point is, within a few years, .uk may take that primary spot so it's better to have both (and for brand protection). That, and if you're selling to domainers, you're in a stronger position. If someone likes your domain, they will check if the .uk is ftr. If it is, they may just pick that up instead. If you were to sell this domain at a well known UK auction site, they will tell the buyers whether the .uk is registered or not so they don't even have to check - I have never seen a .co.uk sell there where the .uk was ftr. I have seen the .uk get snapped up quickly though.

My own personal opinion is .uk will overtake .co.uk. I try to hold both and any sites I develop from now on will be on the .uk (with the .co.uk pointing to it if I have it). If I see a nice .co.uk I can do something with, I will firstly check if the .uk is registered. If it isn't, I will pick it up and then try to buy the .co.uk. If I can't buy it for whatever reason, I'm not too worried, I still have the name I want.

I think your Very Wrong . Personally I think "The Japanese Market". is a good market model/example. The .co.jp is Dominant (The later .jp is struggling and hardly in use) . Likewise The .co.uk is to far ahead and already set in the British publics mindseye to be threatened by .uk (whatever its attributes)

Yes in-time some very minimal bleed, but that's it. And Could you imagine somebody being stupid enough to Launch on .UK (without .co.uk) And of course there's No traffic capture to make any-of-them worthwhile as a side bet - No wonder Nominet wants to give them away. Almost/maybe a self destroying move by them from the beginning. And we (including me) Sometimes wonder why we want/need the clarity of .com
