I used them last year. Well 'used' may not be the proper word to describe the situation. One of my Wordpress sites got hit with a bruteforce attack and instead of suspending or disabling access just to that site (bare minimum) as most providers do, they suspended the entire account taking down all the sites and instead of allowing me to work and fix that, or providing me with logs to prove their claims, they preferred to loose me as a customer and just provided me with a backup. That ended up costing me a lot of downtime and hours of work. So yea, it's cheap but you get what you pay for...

Really? Which hosting plan were you on? Shared, dedicated, etc.? What kind of security plugins are you using?

I had a brute force attack a few months ago on HostGator's shared hosting. It "almost" took down two of my sites. I never really trust the host to provide a backup, so I use the UpDraft Plus plugin to email me a back up of all my sites every night. I was able to pull one of those and upload it back onto WordPress and the sites were back to normal.

I also added the WordFence security plugin, which allows you to block IP addresses, as well as block countries. It also blocks fake Google crawlers and brute force attack ip addresses automatically. It sends you a report every week showing you what ip addresses, if any, were blocked that week.

I had been using the Anti-Malware and Brute Force Security plugin and the darn thing wasn't even protecting anything. The actual pieces of the plugin that would block an attack didn't even come with the plugin. They were sold separately!

I also added the WPS Hide Login plugin and that stopped all brute force attacks dead in their tracks. Hackers can't get in if they can't find the login page.

I haven't had any problems since. But again that was on HostGator. They didn't do anything to my account. They just left the sites up there to potentially infect another one of my sites. When I called and talked to them, they didn't even know what I was talking about.

I haven't had any problems with Hostwinds. I've been with them for about 3 years. I like them because they have 24 hour live chat that only takes 5 seconds to speak to someone.

I wasn't hacked, I had my own backups as well. I just had a resource usage spike which destabilized their server. Again, it was not yesterday, it was over a year ago shortly after black friday. They didn't care, they just took my sites down for that instead of isolating the attacked site. They didn't provide me with any proof of attacks, but I did narrow it down in the logs once they gave me a link to a full cPanel backup and terminated my account.
