There is SOME truth to that, but, every extension at some point had these cheap offers, spammers took advantage of it then too, nobody said chit. .XYZ might not be serious now, but you can't deny the numbers. It's impressive, not just for .xyz but all new extensions, spammer or not.

I've been saying this like 29834 times already, it's too soon for XYZ, it's doing GOOD at the moment, I will take it, I invested what 30 bucks total for really good keyword extensions. I've got nothing to lose here. Do I think they will be worth a lot more in the future? Yes

Question:

Would you build a business on a .xyz?

Why not, personally if I had the option between premiumnamewithaddedwords.com vs premium.xyz, or hell even premiumname.xyz, I would take the .xyz, same with other extensions though, .io, .club, etc. But of course if it was 1 to 1 word comparison with a .com obviously I would build my site on the .com, but people don't have that luxury most of the time, either way too expensive (XX,XXX) or just not available.

Would not invest in promoting something in .xyz or similar.
Com, Org only. .Co if exceptionally good keyword.
Us and other cctlds if geo limited - yes.

i think it depends what type of business, i wouldnt use xyz for corporate or serious legal matters, i could see xyz being use for all other types tho blogs, stores, stats, social media, download upload etc etc

Sure, why not? Wine.mx just sold for $25,001 USD! Just goes to show a good keyword left of of dot sells and right in many cases means nothing to an interested buyer. Unless of course it's something like .attorney etc., then wine.attorney doesn't work IMO.

This appears to be a site in Brazil therefore .mx, Mexico must appear generic enough for them to purchase keyword wine. It's a country code and not a gtld but it does show the potential of what good keywords can do within any extension.

If you are new I wouldn't play the .GTLD lottery. It's VERY rare to land a big sale with them.

On the other hand, when you know what you are doing it's so easy to flip a $220 domain for $5,000 in a few days (done that) - it was sold pretty much the moment I put it on the market.

And that's just one good flip I did. To clarify, I am considering my gTLD portfolio as a middle to longer term investment and only resell domains now to make the portfolio self-sustainable.

How is this relevant to .xyz??? Its got nothing to do with these new extensions, its a well-established cctld versus a totally unknown and unproven extension

.MX is the Mexican extension and its all part of the Wine.com.br (Brazil) brand....Its a cctld and the owners have built a business on their local extension and obviously do business in Mexico as well, you cant compare a nice cctld sale with .xyz

Its like comparing an .xyz sale to the sale Poker.de for $957,937 USD, its comparing apples and elephants :(

Congrats on your success with it!

The key point like you said "when you know what you are doing".

Most of the time, GTLD's are thrown in front of people who are new and thought since they missed out on the first .com wave, the GTLD's will be the new wave of the future and they will make bank on them. Some do like yourself but it isn't as simple as being advertised.

Glad your strategy is working for you though. Good stuff.

Oh really I never could locate anything where they do business in Mexico, do you have a link? I don't think they do but maybe you have proof of this. It was of my opinion when researching them they do not ship to Mexico therefore my point was if you have a great keyword, such as wine the extension whether it's a country code, or .xyz make no difference to many.

Now if in fact they ship to Mexico my post has no merit.

Why would they register .mx then, it obviously for a reason, and its also a south american country so it makes sense. It might not be now, it might be in their future plans...or thye did it just for the traffic, but either way its a business decision and its a cctld, its what most companies register after a .COM

This is not some small little importer, they are very well-known, it makes sense to register their domain in neighboring country cctld's

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...innovative-companies-in-brazil-274450371.html

if you have a great keyword, such as wine the extension whether it's a country code, or .xyz make no difference to many

It makes a huge difference to most companies, they are not interested in a gimmick extension like XYZ, thats why you dont see all these companies running out and registering their brand name in .XYZ, just like Wine.com or Wine.com.br didn't rush out and get Wine.xyz

Why would they register .mx then

Don't know why they paid 25K for wine.mx when they don't do business in Mexico. Maybe because wine.xyz is owned by .xyz. :D

They obviously do or plan to in the future...companies dotn register extensions for no reason at all

cmon why else would they?? its common sense, or its just brand protection like a lot of companies do, same as some US companies register .CA and Australian companies register .co.nz

Maybe because wine.xyz is owned by .xyz
Yeah, Im sure thats it, they could get it for a the fraction of the price if they wanted it, maybe they were worried about what other people thought lol

What names did you try to submit ? That's a huge thing and also watch the interview with Domain Sherpa and Frank Schillings and Andrew and Sean. Huge Interview explanation of views on the GTLD market and personal views from each ! Frank Schillings is right on the money for he invests in GTLD too.
