This thread made me lol.

Google simply used a xyz because abc.xyz makes sense. 99.9% of xyz names don't make any sense. And 99.9% of people still don't like xyz.

Even I'm selling a few xyz but I got to speak the truth here. :p

Rarely happens, it's just opinions and when cited, if not direct, is the post itself cited from evidence based lit.

To all the people saying .xyz doesn't make sense, does it need to in order to convey that whatever.xyz is a
"website" that you access/navigate on a computer? No.

double-u double-u double-u dot whatever dot x y z MEANS "a website/virtual address", a virtual catalog or information resource accessed usually on a computer. That is all the meaning/association that is necessary.

The domain doesn't weigh as much as the content, if people like your site, they will remember your address.
Of course certain people will beg to differ, but still... function/value over appearances.
