We all knew Google had the money to do this and has probably been planning it for a while now. It makes me wonder why they did the whole XYZ thing when it would have been a good chance to push their own new extension, where they could have had ABC, Alphabet, and any other combination on reserve, lol.

not following why they would allow this extension? Wouldn't any domain with the keyword in .com containing keyword "google" be tm infringement? How is this any different?

they would be ok with if someone was ranking for videosfrom.google or music.google?

They aren't offering it for public use; they are using it for themselves.

As stated here:
We'll be using some of those domains, such as.GOOGLE, .YOUTUBE, and .PLUS, for Google products, so they won't be open to the public.

That is not correct.
Oh, really? I provided the source from Google Registry verifying it's correct.

Where's your source? Mine is Google Registry.

My source is from inside Google, not from a prehistoric FAQ page.

you mean that Google is gonna open up .Google to the public? I could see this happening, especially if Google wants to offer people free site building tools, etc.

they did the abc.xyz for a holdings entity purpose, plus anything that starts on a top lists, starts with numbers or letters...it is in order, so naturally, ABC will show up at the top of those lists.

As far as domain name .google....well, the internet is just beginning to change and not one man can explain it all, but there are multiple people that can create a white paper report to cover all the angles.

However, it would be nice to dominate the search engines with .google and knowing damn well, that your domain name will appear at the top of the search engines. You could possibly dominate all of local search results, dentist.google doctor.google gold.google

you really think that google will allow others to be at the top of their own search engine results page: Look at this page and you see thir own advertisement at the top right of the results:
https://www.google.com/search?q=domain+names&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

maybe organic search MAYBE..BUT WHY THE HELL ELSE WOULD THEY PUT THEIR OWN ADVERTISTMENT AT THE TOP RIGHT CORNER,yet tell everyone that the top of the results right below the field box and below that is where most of the clicks happen, let's figure out eye movement and human behavior patterns and where the eye balls move on the screen accordingly to the type of searcher is involved. Then you figure that those who have a google account, have their demographicall information already submitted into google, which then google can easily predict the type of customer/searcher is and where they will look...

like i said, a huge white paper report...anyways,

With the money they have they can go with pretty much whatever they want for kicks and a loss is minor to them either way if it does go bad. Google has done many switches in the past and failed. There so big pretty much equivalent to a write off really.
