Was doing some driving today, listening to classic rock on siriusxm and the dj mentioned a .fm site which I thought was pretty cool.

It was setlist .fm, think it's the first time I've heard a ccTLD mentioned on the radio and satellite radio too..

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If it fits it will catch on, and that one definitely has potential but it's a pretty safe bet that all fm frequencies and known radio stations are long gone.

I agree that .fm has no purpose for the site, although FM radio is still alive along with AM.

The actual point of my post is that a DJ listened to by thousands and thousands of people is talking about a ccTLD, like .fm was normal.

I'm just glad to see mainstream media excepting changes to the right of the dot without explanation.

Yeah I've had to explain myself before when telling an email address. Being in the uk we tend to use the .co.uk extension so when I gave a friend me email [email protected] he said " dot CO dot what? What just dot CO? Nothing after it?" Haha he was so shocked. Then I realised that before I started domaining I'd never heard of anything other than .com .org and .info! Maybe radio advertisings the way forward lol.

Radio, or TV will help for sure but it just shows how times are changing within the right of the dot. Whether it's a ccTLD, or gTLD etc. it will become common place for people to look at keyword and whatever is right of the dot.

Don't get carried away. One DJ on one radio station mentioned one dot gTLD which he probably just read without thinking anyway. It's probably not going to be looked back upon as being the catalyst of the end of dot com. :-,

We also don't know how many of the people that heard the announcement automatically without thinking entered dot com at the end of it when typing it into their browser or their phone.

I think that for the general public, "dot com" for websites is pretty deeply in-bedded in their subconscious and will take more than one radio mention to displace it, but that's just my opinion of course.

I would appreciate if you don't turn this thread into a .com debate, TY.

And for the record it was a ccTLD and not a gTLD.

I'm sure he doesn't know what a ccTld is. The extension just fits his needs, so he registered the domain. I don't think this is a domainer deal, it's just an end-user who liked the entire domain, incl. extension.

And we shouldn't take this as a cctld win...

Honestly I don't even know what you're talking about.

I simply pointed out that a ccTLD , domain name + url are being shouted via siriusxm.

I think it's pretty cool, that's all...

No debate here but it seems a few want to spin things..

Yeah, it's not really a big deal. There are plenty of sites that use something other than a .com. I guess it's so rare tho you hear it on air, that a thread gets made about it. As far as thousands and thousands, as I pointed out in another thread Justin Bieber tweeted about his .tattoo url to 65 million followers, did nothing for the extension itself, since it sits at 7,000+ but they do see another extension. But most people have already.
