Received a query from one of the Microsoft's senior management guys, for one of my Holo names, via DNS.

Feels amazing. ;)
Is it for the obvious name ;)

Congrats!

Is it strictly "Holo" + 1 generic keyword or some made up word like i.e. Holopia?

Strictly Holo + Keyword.

Thankfully I own both the plural & singular. ;)

I haven't replied to them as yet. The keyword belongs to an industry that is one of the biggest commercial ones in the world.

The names are both 10+ years old.

I picked up:
Holo / USB - who knows?
Holo / Cake & Holo / Cakes - Birthdays, weddings, funerals; send your friends a holo cake.

Certainly not blockbusters but for coupon handreg, I'm okay with them.

Hololens is tm. Some company named Microsoft has applied for it.
Well, nobody knows how will they deal with the name HoloLens in URLs. We discussed that here on NamePros several pages back. They could be benevolent like in the case of 9to5Mac or AndroidCentral or they can be really nasty. We will see in the future. For that reason I decided to buy HoloPeripheral and HoloPeripherals too. And I have just bought HLperipherals and I already own HLaccessories, if the name HoloLens would be an issue. I believe in Nadella's more open-minded dealing with things such as this one ;)

Drop these 2 names, just because MS don't come after you doesn't make it ok to infringe on someone TM

Sorry, I don't get what you mean

Again I say, what does DroneInc have to do with it?

proud owner of these premium HoloLens domains

Are you seriously proud to be infringing on a companies trademark, we see new people do that every month here and a few months later most of them are gone, a few stick around and learn from their mistakes and start making sales and being successful domainers.

You will find the general consensus on here is that squatters give us domainers a bad name and the whole practise is frowned upon, but its your call in the end

Im only trying to help, you can do what you want with the advice

Again I say, what does DroneInc have to do with it?

That means that you are a squatter and not a domainer too.

You are squatting and waiting for somebody to create a biz called Drone Inc. and then sell him this domain.

You can be sure that if somebody decides to create a company called Drone Inc. that he would get a trademark for such a good company name. And maybe there is such a company already, I don't know.

If you already have a company called Drone Inc. I will take it back and apologize.

Otherwise, you are not in a position to tell others that they are squatters and you are a domainer.

HoloLens- domains are accepted on GoDaddy auctions as well as on SEDO auctions. And ipad/ipod/applewhatever is not ;)

Btw. Holo is patented too and you have holo.solutions and maybe other holo domains too.

All the HoloLens domains that I own could be used for great websites about HoloLens, how is that bad for HoloLens? This is what HoloLens needs! A massive community and many websites about HoloLens.

Do you follow the new MSFT strategy?

MSFT is embracing open source and is much more open (allowing iOS and Android apps on their platform; migrating their software to GNU/Linux systems, and Apple systems; .net core is open source; they said that they will bring Swift language support to Visual Studio).

My philosophy is different than yours. I want HoloLens to succeed and MSFT to sell as much units as possible. I am going to buy the first generation of HoloLens as soon as it's available to the general public and I am going to develop apps for it. because it's the most interesting and revolutionary technology since the Internet.

By creating a huge ecosystem of websites/services around HoloLens this could be possible.
I myself, will probably build some websites on these HoloLens domains. I have some ideas.

Lastly, I will send you, as well as some other "holo" domainers in this thread, invitation to the new HoloNames website, where you can list your Holo-, HoloLens-, HL- or other Holo and HoloLens related domains for free. It will be ready probably sometime next week. It's going to be the biggest Holo domain names community on the Internet. And you are welcome to list your domains there, my friend.

Hello HoloNames. I wanted to chime in here because I think you are a bit confused on how TM works.

Waiting for somebody to create a biz called Drone / / Inc (Dinc)., and then selling that person this domain is domaining.

According to TESS, there is no company that currently exists that uses the name Dinc, therefore Giles can register a domain using the name Dinc, and is not squatting; registering a domain that is violating a trademark and expecting to sell it.

And who gives you the right to tell who is a domainer and who is a squatter?

It's not that Giles has the 'right', rather he is in 'the right' by providing you with this knowledge.

Keep in mind that he did start this thread, and has been doing this for quite some time.

I too would never register a good "HoloLens*" domain, as I feel that it is squatting, and also violates the MS trademark for "HoloLens".

Maybe MS will give people carte blanche to use the name for a website with the active use and development of a sales distribution channel for specific products, but it's a VERY risky name to use and to hold.

HoloLens- domains are accepted on GoDaddy auctions as well as on SEDO .

This does not mean that a future action will not be taken against the owners.

In the end, disagreeing is your right, but it's off topic to the thread and Giles gave you some very accurate information.

Well, while we are in this hypothetical future prediction state, I will continue and add that I agree and it will probably depend on the website itself.

I can imagine a great website called Hololensia where you could share your HoloLens achievments/videos/stories/holo-fiction etc.

Or a blog site called HoloLenser or HoloLensMania where there will be reviews, news, and all things hololens.

I can imagine a website HoloLensGraffiti, where people will be posting their graffiti creations done via Hololens.

I can imagine a website called HoloLensPeripherals that will list all peripherals available for HoloLens.

I can imagine a ton of other cases that will help MSFT to spread the marketshare of HoloLens.

And I can also imagine a lot of cases of these names that could harm MSFT and HoloLens.

Final verdict: It depends and neither you nor me can predict the "real" future of "HoloLens" usage in URLs ;)
