I sold a domain name through freemarket.com(freelancer.com) listed with buy-now price.

Anyways, the deal went smooth and I pushed the domain to him through Namecheap and the money got transfered to my freelancer account. The money needed to stay with freemarket for two weeks before I could withdraw them(security reasons) but after the two weeks passed, I got this message: "Funds originated from an account that is currently under review" and later on, this mail:

our employer, XYZ, that bought your Freemarket item were found to have violated our Terms and Conditions. Their account was closed by our site administrators. All the payments that they have released to you were returned to its source.

We strongly suggest that you contact your employer, in any way possible to you, and settle the payment outside the site. As an extension of our support, we can send them a message on your behalf. Should you wish to proceed with this, kindly mail us back for your confirmation.

Feel free to contact us back should you need further assistance. "

The payment got reversed.

Now I neither have money or my domain, what should be my next step?
Regards

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
What would be nice is if someone would clarify Freemarket's chargeback policy so that sellers can know where they stand. Are payments guaranteed or not?

Hey Jonnyk,

I've contacted our CS team and they mentioned your ticket is currently being looked into. I can't make a statement about your case specifically, but in general chargebacks occur in all realms of digital goods (Ebay etc.) and no one has a perfect solution. We already have several mechanisms in place to prevent this from occurring, especially for higher priced transactions.

Unfortunately these chargebacks do occur after the transfer is already completed. We are actively trying to resolve this for you and for our current users going forward. If you have any questions feel free to send me a private message here.

Cheers,
Stefan

This is still a horrible situation for a company like yours. The marketplace should be separate from Freelancer.com like you did with WarriorForum. Domaining and freelancing has nothing to do with each other. Hoping to see the changes soon. We want new marketplaces especially from companies like yours but definitely hot this way. We're the users so you should think about how we want our money to be transferred.

@Stefan Hogan & @machej, Looks like your freemarket platform is notoriously charging me twice for my listing upgrades. Should I go ahead and file a paypal dispute or your staff would do it right?

My freelancer account is limited now lol

@Stefan Hogan & @machej, Looks like your freemarket platform is notoriously charging me twice for my listing upgrades. Should I go ahead and file a paypal dispute or your staff would do it right?

My freelancer account is limited now lol

Now FreeMarket/Freelancer team is asking me to cancel my dispute filed with Paypal about double charge or else they wouldnt remove limit on my account.

Looks like my attempt to try FreeMarket.com for listing my domain for sale plus paying extra for a featured upgrade has caused me trouble than anything else. So I dont think I would want to continue using it.

At this point, I am frustrated and have asked them to cancel my listing and refund my full amount!

I got an email from FreeMarket.com about listing domains on their platform. I've been considering it but, now I'm doubtful after reading through this thread.

FreeMarket staff is pure ignorant to the issue and threatening me to cancel dispute or they will not remove limitation on my freelancer/freemakrt account, even though I made it clear that I will not be using their services ever, and now demand refund on my first charge as well.

They are repeating the same thing again and again, so i went ahead filed dispute for first charge as well after paypal refunded the duplicate charge.

FreeMarket & FreeLancer #FAIL

Disappointed to hear all of this. It looks like they're expanding too fast. Hopefully the ripples are smoothed out.

Expanding without proper guidance and vision. They're only fousing on outdoing Flippa with aggresive marketing through spamming whereas they arent aware of the fact that it is actually hurting their brand-image.

Product over at Freemarket failed considerably, Plus customer support is NOGOOD either!!

@Stefan Hogan Will probably reply soon. It's a long public holiday in Australia right now.

Not worth it still. Rather than refunding my fee to a listing which is not even active on their website yet, their stupid customer service/finance team escalated my dispute to paypal team.

Heights of immature way to treat your customers, and no need for them to retain customers. I wonder how were they able to come this far with freelancer?

Is there a way to use Escrow with FreeMarket ?

Do you really want to lose your money by using FreeMarket?

Read above about my horrible experience.

Read the story. Sorry to hear about that! I didn't read the whole thread though, just curious to know anyway. I'll go back to read everything more thoroughly when I have the time. Thanks!

Any recent replies from them? If not escalate it to freelancer direct.

I am also a victim of freemarket malpractice but since I do not want to hijack this thread have opened another thread.
@jonnyk You are not alone - there is a whole lot of unethical activity going on at freemarket.com a.k.a. freelancer.com - the modus operandi being the same in all cases, the trick starts when it's time these guys have to pay you the money. Though this is apparently is a violation of contract, repeated violation of the same nature amounts to crime, we are not only deprived of our money, what about the mental torture and agony which we have to face because of their deliberate negligence from which they can't wash their hands off? I have spoken to the Australian Cyber Crime Online Reporting Network and also thinking of filing a lawsuit in Australia (as the company is registered there), even if I have to spend thousand times the money which I am being deprived of.
My suggestion to you and others who face the same problem with freemarket.com a.k.a. freelancer.com:
1. Take screenshots of all your account dashboard.
2. Document all the emails, support tickets.
3. Upload all the documents online in any place like photobucket where you can give anyone link to access them.
4. File a complain with ACORN explaining all that happened with proof which you uploaded. For every claim you make, like you say they sent you a mail, give them the link to the screenshot which you uploaded.
5. If ACORN feels that your case is genuine, they will investigate into the matter and take appropriate steps.
6. Complain to Australian Fair Trade, though they don't have much authority, but can put pressure.
7. Report to stopfraud gov
8. Report to scamwatch gov au
9. Report computer, internet-related, or intellectual property crime with justice gov / criminal /cybercrime/ reporting.html
These does not ensure that you get your money back, but in the long run will contribute to a no-nonsense internet.

As a last resort try contacting Matt (the CEO) at matt(AT)freelancer.com.

Always be courteous, he's not the reason for your problem. He is a down to earth guy and he may be able to refer the matter to someone who can help.

Its only $30 but still a reason for me to not use freemarket/freelancer anymore, so I may reach out. Thanks bud!

I have also learn't that Matt is a nice person from very trustworthy sources.
With due respect to the CEO at freelancer, he cannot be so down to earth to ignore all the reviews about freelancer.com all over the net.
I searched desperately for a single positive review about freelancer.com anywhere, may be my bad luck I did't succeed finding any.
The CEO should ensure transparency & responsibility enough that we don't have to run from pillar to post for undue negligence of the staffs.

He has mentioned in many interviews that he understands there is legitimate critical feedback and he hopes to address specific issues. There are some positive ones but plenty of negative ones as you mentioned.

I 'sold' a domain on FreeMarket.com last month, the buyer never paid and FreeMarket did absolutely nothing at all. The 'buyer' didn't get his account suspended or closed, he still just gets to go around wasting people time by bidding and not paying.

What a joke.

FreeMarket is a joke and Freelancer has the funding from investors to enjoy it!
