Is there anyway we can bring this currency back for domain name registrations, auctions, etc. I liked that way it was years ago and others I know had a use for them. I believe it was pretty cool having a currency here to obtain domaining related stuff and services.

I used up all of mine a while ago, but I believe you can still auction a domain for NP$ if the other parties also want to deal in NP$. Maybe give it a try?

That's what I mean people used this stuff all the time for everything domain related including auctions. This was powerful with the old owner let alone one who owns a parking company as well. Some peiple might even wanna be paid eventually with NP$ for the parked domains even. The possibilities here are endless.

thanks for the suggestion. Its something we'll revisit and discuss again later. For the time being though, there is a np$ marketplace area designated for dealing in np$.

It's something some of us really didn't want to see end really. RJ did great with it. To think what Matt could add to this could be a huge turning point for namepros. He has more resources then they did before even.

Thanks for the suggestion. We had one from 2003 to about 2006/07 (As many know) and ran into some debatable conflicts with U.S./Cyber currency laws. This would be something that needs intensive investigative research before we would be able to venture down that road again.

Oh I see.. I can see a forum regarding Legal Discussion here so I think someone (legal expert) will surely contribute in this regard. Most of the members will love such feature but yes as you said this needs intensive investigative research..

No doubt if it clears every obstacle, it will help a lot for np domainers.. If you are planning to implement such feature.. good luck

Can NP$ still be used for anything?

As Eric_Lyon has mentioned, I know many countries have started to take a closer look at what qualifies as actual currency since the introduction of bitcoins. So I can definitely understand where he is coming from in the legal standpoint. I don't see however why it cannot be treated as an item separate from legitimate currency either though. For example the realm of trade and barter. Farmers use to trade eggs for milk and things of that nature. So why couldn't someone trade x amount of NP for a domain registration and such. As long as it is not treated like a currency, then there shouldn't be any harm in my opinion. It only becomes a problem when you begin to recognize it as an actual form of currency and use it like currency such as giving loans and charging interest and utilizing a bank. That is where it resembles legal currency to much. So some modifications will definitely have to be made in that sense I am sure. And even if the legalities of it are figured out, I am sure it might warrant a poll being created to see how many people will actually want to participate in that type of a program again. I doubt NamePros will want to pay their developers to re-implement something that may not get the usage they were anticipating. But needless to say, I do feel the subject matter does warrant getting the ball rolling on in some fashioned since I know people use to love using it. Especially since I was one of the people offering domain registration services through RegisterBird with NP$ through a special domainers section of our site.

One way to remove some of the legalities of NP$ being a currency is simple.
Do not allow selling for MONEY!
EG: I will sell xx amount of NP$ for xx dollars.
Or I will buy xx amount of NP$ for xx dollars.
Or other currency.
