Just wondering what the general thoughts are about whether the recent trend to legalize marijuana will boost the prices of pot-related domains?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I see MJ names listed on the various sites for sale... a lot of them for $250 or $400 minimum offer.
I have made a couple of offers... slightly above the base asking price. Invariably, the seller will wait until the very last reponse second, then come back with $10K or some other huge number.
My question is: why in the world would the seller think they could convert a $250 minimum offer into anything NEAR $10K?! I think it's unprofessional in that it's a big waste of time for all. IMHO, if you want $10K, make the minimum at least $5K.
I would like to hear any comments about this strategy and if it works... i.e. converting a $250 min offer into a multi-$K closing.
Thanks!

As I have always said, it is greedy domainers!
Look at the threads here on NP where someone says he got a xxx offer and bam...
Greedy domainers jump in and say, counter with xx, xxx or more....blah blah blah.
What is never stated in these threads is how many sellers did not get anything from the person offering to buy at xxx, after countering with xx,xxx.

I have CannabisVariety + CannabisVarieties listed at 1k min offer but i want much more than 1k, same for many of my domains. I keep it low to see what offers come in.

Thought this was an interesting brief history of marijuana in Ft Collins, CO. Similar fights will certainally break out in other states as they too go full-legal.
________________

• November 2000 — State voters approve Amendment 20 to the Colorado Constitution, allowing use of medical marijuana to treat debilitating conditions.

• June 2001 — Colorado Department of Health and Environment begins accepting applications to the state Medical Marijuana Registry.

• February 2008 — Fort Collins issues its first sales-tax license for a medical marijuana dispensary.

• December 2009 — Fort Collins sets a moratorium on issuing sales-tax licenses for MMDs. Eventually, 58 businesses would have licenses.

• May 2010 — The state Legislature passes House Bill 1284, which lays out requirements for MMJ businesses and requires them to be licensed by state and local jurisdictions. The law permits local governments to ban marijuana businesses.

• August 2010 — Larimer County bans MMJ businesses.

• November 2010 — Loveland voters approve ban on MMJ businesses.

• March 2011 — Fort Collins "grandfathers" existing MMJ businesses that do not meet all distancing requirements. The city has 23 businesses.

• May 2011 — Concerned Fort Collins Citizens launches petition drive for vote in Fort Collins on banning marijuana dispensaries, growing operations and manufacturers of marijuana-infused products.

• August 2011 — The City Council places proposal to ban MMJ businesses in Fort Collins on the Nov. 1 ballot.

• November 2011 — City voters approve the ban, 52 percent to 48 percent. The margin is 1,471 votes. Certification of the results sets the shutdown date as Feb. 14.

• January 2012 — Dispensary owners sue the city over the ban, claiming it is unconstitutional, and request a temporary restraining order to block its implementation.

• February 2012 — A district court judge denies the request for a temporary restraining order. Marijuana shops and grows are closed.

• November 2012 — Fort Collins voters approve a measure allowing medical marijuana facilities to operate again.

• November 2012 — Colorado voters legalize recreational use of marijuana for users age 21 and older.

• July 2013 — First medical marijuana store reopens in Fort Collins.

• June 2014 — First recreational marijuana shop opens in Fort Collins.

The industry appears to be thriving here in Foco! We have at least 7 retail marijuana shops in the area and many more that are medical only. Of course everyone wants a slice of the tax revenue so that's the latest episode in the saga...

Fort Collins schools won't get marijuana money

I've bought some of my best domains when high. Or so I thought at the time, only to wake up the next day and realise that stoned domain is worthless in this dimension.

Wow googled the phrase hemp condom and found it already exists, uses the domain blowdom.com.

420condom.com is free but I guess some people might think that was the size.
