Disclaimer: This post is not intended to be a negative one, in fact, quite the opposite. It is meant to motivate - drive - inspire. So take it with a grain of salt, if you dare.

Hard work. Sound familiar? To some, it doesn’t. Sadly, it is a dying aptitude amongst the crowds and for some it has never “clicked” on. It seems that getting rich quick is the dream…well, I don’t blame you for wishing it so, however, I am here to tell you that you will likely never get rich quick. Especially in the domain industry.

The answers will never be handed to you on a silver platter and no one is going to hold your hand along the way. Success will not be given to you - it must be earned. There is no easy way and there are absolutely no shortcuts to becoming a successful and profitable domain name investor. NONE. NADA. ZIP. ZILCH. ZERO.

Take a step back and really let that soak in.

Are you willing to work harder than everyone else?
Do you want it as badly as you can breathe?
Does the thought of succeeding consume your every waking moment?

Ask yourself those questions and honestly answer them. There is a reason that a select few are at the top and stay there. It’s no fluke. They didn’t ask for hand-outs, they busted their a***s to get to where they are. They dug deep, researched the industry and they engulfed themselves in everything they could find in order to become a successful domain name investor. Most importantly, they never gave up. Ever.

What I’m getting at is this: if you want to become a highly successful domain name investor it all comes down to one thing: hard work. If you aren’t waking up earlier, going to sleep later, and working harder than everyone else and only seeking a quick and easy way to get rich, you will never make it. So how bad do you want it?
Are you willing to read every single post on NamePros?
Are you willing to watch every single DomainSherpa video?
Are you willing to look through every single listing there is on every auction platform?
Are you willing to scour through every blog post from every single industry related blog there is?
Read every single word on the internet that is related to this industry?
Are you willing to read every sales book ever written? Books on sales psychology? Negotiation tactics?
Are you able to soak up everything there is and only ask questions when you’ve exhausted every effort of your own to find the answers?!

How much work are you really willing to do? Because at the end of the day, what sets apart the successful people from the unsuccessful people is one thing: hard work.

As I said in the beginning of this post, this is not meant to be negative or to put you down, at all. I truly hope that this inspires you. I hope it ignites an explosion of curiosity and passion for you. I hope that you dream bigger, dig deeper, and push harder than you ever have to achieve your dream of becoming a successful domain name investor. This is one of those jobs that has more rewards than you can ever imagine. It is up to you to determine just how badly you actually want it.

I am here to tell you that you will likely never get rich quick. Especially in the domain industry.

Indeed! This misconception is a major part of the problem that people outside of the domain industry have with it. They think it's just some "get rich quick" or "lazy man's path to riches" industry. In reality, it's not. It takes just as much hard work, if not more, to build a successful domain business as their half-witted attempts at building "The Next Big Social App!" And, of course, the only thing holding them back is buying your domain name. Yeah, right... In fact, a domain business is infinitely more likely to turn a profit than their pretentious, haughty social app.

(Disclaimer: This post is not intended to offend, unless you think building a social app makes you more of an entrepreneur than a domainer.) :D

Very, very true. It is up to all of us to change that view of our industry. The more we grow as individuals, the more we will grow as an entire industry!

Well - you better tell this to the hundreds of domainers listing sh..y domains at Flippa right now. One video course on this topic is a "must". I guess this is because of the free listing? Is this still going on - vote and list for free? It's hard to scroll and scroll and scroll to find something valuable. Thank God there is expireddomains.net to sort them and mark the one that I am interested in. But isn't this odd - going to another site to see the valuable domains listed at your site?

I looked through your sale pitches around flippa. They follow the same logic and structure of another genious seller @KCGroup. I guess that works pretty well .But I keep wondering why are you listing tens of unrelated seraches to the domain that you are selling?

For example:

you are selling pedal.com . And you are proving the value of the domain showing search volume for....

bicycle seats
mountain bikes
bicycle wheels
cycling shoes
bicycle tires
bikes online and so on and so on...

What is the logic behind it? Following this you can also show the volume searches for "bikes".

And you are showing comparable sales:

slots.com
autos.com
vodka.com
photo.com
bingo.com
............

Well - you can also include sex.com here. I guess pedal has much more in common with sex than with bingo!?

Is this manipulation or example of a great selling tactics? Since you are pro seller - your advice will be highly appreciated. I am in the process of listing one valuable name there. So I want to learn. Should I open namebio to see the highest sales and write them as "comparable sales"?

It takes just as much hard work, if not more, to build a successful domain business
You hit the nail on the head when you said it takes as much if not MORE hard work to be successful at domaining. It's because of those attitudes towards domaining from those on the outside that make it even more difficult. There seems to be little respect for domainers, unfortunately.

I will be honest here though, before I got into domaining I worke as a network architect (think ethernet, firewalls, nat boxes etc etc) and I too did not respect domainers at that time.

Of course, now that I understand much more about it, I do have respect for those who work in domaining, risking their own money in a very hard industry. An let us not forget,with all these new tld's coming out, now is probably the hardest time to be in domaining risking your own cash for profit.

I am KCGroup... just got hired as Senior Broker at Flippa on Jan. 12th. Transitioning over to my new Flippa Broker seller account.

But I keep wondering why are you listing tens of unrelated seraches to the domain that you are selling?

Thats because I post the Google Keyword Planner's top 100 relative searches.

As you can see in my listing, I state " Take a look at this list of comparable 5 letter - one word .coms!"

Why are those listed? Because they are comparable 5 letter - on word .com sales.

Yeah, I think lots of people are that way until they learn about the industry. As Ali alluded, it's up to us to educate the general public so that they realize we are running real, respectable businesses with many of the same obstacles that every other business faces.

Working hard to Learn, and then continue working hard whilst one has learned and is in the right direction.

Lots of Folks work hard, but the direction is wrong most times, as they learn not about the right direction (the basics of domaining).

So to be working harder, but in the in the right direction sounds more appropriate.

Otherwise, lots of folks work way too hard at registering crap names, like dragons that dance. ;)
