It is interesting to see that quite a few nTLDs are part of the auction at NamesCon coming up next month in Las Vegas. At last count among 318 names up for auction which are now live for pre-bidding on SnapNames about 40% were nTLDs.

Further Analysis is available here...read more.

I enjoyed the auction, thanks JB for providing the link.

The last Live Auction item ePeso.com - was a steal IMO, sold at $2500

All done now wait for Pundits to analyze the stats and comment. My takeaway, overall a successful auction in terms of sales versus list

  1. Reserves too high on some premium dot COMs?
  2. Highest sale during Live Auction Wine.CLUB at 140K
  3. Terrible show by most nTLDs selling below $500 even (xyz, global , vegas, nyc)
  4. CLUB the nTLD winner by miles
  5. COM still king - Notable high sale CarAuctions.com at 90K in Live Auction - need to confirm HomeCare.com sale offline pre-auction

Over all I thought the outlook of the new gTLDs was good at this early stage, sure .com blew them away as expected but I do see a future.

Let's note these were not end users but rather long time DM investors attending this function.

Oh BTW - Not sure who was selling the xyz names but they were the worst and that's why the bad showing IMO.

I would say mostly domain investors. It's an end user that would pay 140k for a wine.club. And I'm not sure if that's a straight up sale or payment plan sale. I do think people reporting sales on their blogs and Twitter should make note of stuff like that.

Agree with most of that. Out of the like 350+ new extensions, really only .club is getting any consistent sales, even not including the rent by year big sales.

CLUB the nTLD winner by miles
I would say that this is an inaccurate statement if you look at it from another perspective, mainly your point #5.

At the end, they stated they cleared $1,000,000 in the auction. Quickly adding, I get $690,601 for all .com sales. Looking at it monetarily, it beat ngTLD's by far. However, there were more ngTLD's on the market that did sell because they could, at lower amounts.

Even if they didn't include the $350,000 sale in the last statement, .com still took 1/3rd of the money with 2/5ths names added (52/134). That's even with some not selling because the reserve was too high on some as pointed out.

So for the purpose of .com losing by miles, I don't think so. They just had more ngTLD's selling for pennies to speculators.

Coffee.CLUB and Vegas.CLUB were part of the Startup.CLUB program, zero interest 10 year (10K / year) payment plan, with marketing and web development support. WINE.CLUB was an outright sale in a LIVE AUCTION

David, I said dot CLUB is a nTLD winner by miles not gTLD - or overall domain industry. Still the best after a COM

Weren't most of the NTLD sales registry sales?

Were there any that were privately owned/ registered pre auction?

Not sure but if so they didn't show their best IMO.

Not sure, time will tell. Seems like if it was done through .club it would not happen at a live auction but I don't know. Maybe they secured funding in the hallway outside the room.. :xf.smile:

Anyhow .club continues to impress..

Will have to wait for details. Maybe it was an actual straight up sale, maybe something was in the works before the auction took place. Having a 100k sale before the auction and then having a 6 figure sale during the auction, gets good press. And they've been pretty good at that. So we'll have to wait and see.

I think Club, Global,Website were registry Wot, I think xyz were domain owners FantasyFootball.xyz etc...

Email.host for $6,500 hope that was an end user, Tequila.club $8,000.

@JB I believe Wine.club was straight sale no start up program.

It's very possible. I know somebody like wine.com, who has a wine club program could swing that pretty easily.

You know with just the Wine Of The Month, WineBasket kind of CLUBs in the US alone, I can envision a real and high income monetization prospect for Wine.CLUB, 140K was probably a steal despite being a nTLD sales record till date.

Confirmed with Michael Berkens who consults Dot Club and ran the auction, cash buyer, no payment plan.

Why .club is getting so much attention?

Why .club is getting so much attention?

Several logical reasons, here are some IMO:

a) They are focused on a single nTLD
b) The ROTD term is a niche, logical string and "truly global" i.e. translates well in EMEA/China/India etc.
c) They have a decent marketing budget (2.5 in 2014 now 3.5 in 2015)
d) They have done a good job positioning Startups.CLUB (unique offering)
e) They are committed to end user development of key names
f) They have the experience/track record on the team (the CEO specifically)
g) They are about to close on a second round of funding at a 24.5 Million valuation next month
h) They are smart - what can I say, impressive how they roped in 50 Cent, Virat Kohli and more to come..

What did people think of Paperback .com $12,000.00. Is that too expensive or too cheap for such a domain name?

1) Physical Books is a Declining Industry
2) Big Major competitors like Amazon, B&N
3) Low Margin Items

I saw bidding was heavy on that, and I expected the domain would only sell max. for $5,000-$6,000.

I don't understand?
