The new Moniker

Am I the only one longing for the previous Moniker's control panel? I bet not.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I am also testing to transfer out 1 domain first. Seems smooth this far.

Yes, that post was very informative. "They said it did, I say it doesn't", without stating the domain name or whether it was resolved after discussing with them. Impossible to make a judgement.

I've registered domain names before whois privacy was even offered. I put my phone number, address, and even fax number with the registration info like I was told. All I got out of it was tons of junk mail, telemarketing, and even junk faxes that I couldn't stop. That was just for a couple dozen or so domains.

Whois privacy cut down on all of that. I don't want to deal with the same thing for hundreds of domains now.

The only transfers from moniker which work for me are for the 1% of domains which are actually with Moniker, and not with a Reseller. The whole process sucks, big time.

The whole moniker situation is pretty much gross at this point. I still have not received the refund to my real account. And I submitted a ticket to snapnames 6 days ago regarding the domains acquired through auction and no reply so far. I have literally been wasting time every single day for two weeks straight on all of this. I have thought of submitting a complaint here to approach a different angle:

yes, the amount of time wasted on all of this is the worst part of all (well almost, losing domains is worse). we should be able to get compensation for all the time we wasted on their broken, useless, garbage interface.

So keep giving them your money. That'll show 'em!

My portfolio at Moniker is back in tact. Still haven't been credited for the unauthorized charge, but, my credit card company allows 180 days from the date of the charge to dispute it, so I'm leaving it for now. If anyone wants me to advocate for them, I'll be happy to! I know some insider emails.

Please document what you can: save the quick reports you might have downloaded from the old system; take screen shots of your current domain list inside your dashboard, take screen shots of the whois on your more valueable domain names.

My transfer away succeeded and my missing domain is now back in my account.

Moniker support replied to my ticket about my transfer away with a completely useless, canned and unrelated message about how to initiate a domain push.

I only have one domain left at Moniker. Reason being they support a TLD that Dynadot doesn't. I almost lost a client's domain with Moniker last year when - without warning - they disabled it a whole one and a half month prior to its renewal date. Worst registrar ever? Their new interface is slightly more easier to navigate through but it's still a bit buggy.

Another thing that really bothers me is Monikers failure to use the shopping cart the proper way that everyone expects it to function.

When you add domains that you want to renew (They where past the expiry date, so i had no choice) which you cant do in bulk, you don't get to see a summary of the total cost BEFORE you hit pay! You don't see any summary of the $ amount at all! Not before, during or after the renewal have taken place! This is online shopping 101, its so basic I'm lost for words how you can miss this detail!

So Monikers new owners want me to think that they in their passionate effort to create an even better user experience and improved design have spent 1 year or so going "Back to the drawing board" to come up with the best GUI money can buy. And this is the result!!!

Sorry Moniker... You did NOT go back to the drawing board with this one... You just implemented the already existing design and UI that you used for the other Web.com registrars.

That sweet talk about going back to the drawing board is just corporate spin, fluff and hype talk to hide this fact.

If you want to implement your own interface fine... But for the love of God, make sure to beta test it before going live! This is so fundamental in online business that its embarrassing!

The CEO claims in her public letter that they tested the site before going live. No sorry they couldn't have... Because if they did they would have discovered most of the issues that have been pointed out on day 1 after going live.

So either they didn't bother performing any tests thinking it was a known system already proven therefore not needing any tests. Or they ran tests without finding anything, which means the testers did a very poor job since thy signed off the new site and decided to go live.

Its bad enough if they decided to go live not knowing the problems they had, even worse if they did!

They forgot about the The Seven P's

Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance!

Well, my domain i am trying to renew is way past the expiry date. I cannot log in to the site and have asked for my password to be reset (6 days ago). They wanted my old customer number whatever that is. I told them i don't remember it (in fact i don't even remember if i had one). I sent them all other relevent info required but have been met with silence. No further replies to my emails stating the urgency of renewing the domain. .

and yet another day. 20 minutes on hold met with the machine to leave a message. Call again later. 63 minutes on the phone. reached a human, but I STILL have not received my refund. I am not sure if any of you ever tried to get a .de code for transfer out from moniker before, but it is a joke. and still is. Basically support told me to find out the new owners info and change the admin then I can get the code. I said when you sell a name, you need the code to complete the sale, then you find out the buyer (sedo).....BLAH BLAH.

anyhow, they deleted all of the old contacts that had been created in the old moniker and I got to start all over again. I am not sure it will work, but created a new admin contact that allowed me to create a code.

as for snapnames.com, after 7 days they replied with this regarding my snapnames domains won at auction:

We are very sorry for the inconvenience you've experienced with your domain names. These domains are in a Moniker account, you should be able to see it via your new interface at Moniker. Moniker may have created a new account for these names. If that is not the case and Moniker is unable to assist you, please respond to us in writing to request that we move the domain into a Network Solutions account that you can manage.

Of course I reply and state what I have been told by moniker...which is that any name that does not say moniker for the registrar is somewhere else and Network Solutions will figure it out.

exhausting.

the cart (or lack thereof) is ridiculous.

you choose renew immediately from the drop down next to the domain you want to renew. Nothing happens. Then an hour later they renew your name. and you only know because you get an email and an invoice. I think I quit.

Support stated to me...I know it is difficult to learn a new interface, but once you do it will be great. I told her by then my names will be moved. I do not have hours to spend on things that should take seconds, EVERYDAY.

I did apologize for perhaps being not so pleasant on the phone, but I told her at least she gets paid for this stuff, I just waste my time everyday with no compensation at all.

@Stargazer - They do this "Not knowing the total you are paying" trick at NetSol too. They caught me with this on one of their $0.50 promo registrations and charged me the full $34.99 plus they added a recurring payment for $4.99 which I didn't catch for 2 months. I'm never going to fall for that trick ever again.

They tell us this is tried and tested Reseller Panel. I feel sorry for any Reseller having to use this Control Panel with it's lack of bulk features and all it's other challenges.

@Bearded Goat - All my domains won at SnapNames Auctions were caught by Moniker Resellers. Most all of these are "shell" Moniker Registrars owned by Moniker, with no way to contact then, no whois server, no communications from them. These domains were all in my old Moniker Account and I was waiting for the 60 day hold to expire so I could transfer them. Because they were not Moniker Registrar, but only used the Moniker Control Panel, all these domains got unceremoniously dumped to NetSol without any warning. At NetSol, these domains were at Resellers with the same problems as they were having at the new Moniker. Every request for an auth code resulted in a blank Auth Code. It wasn't until I threatened NetSol with an ICANN complaint that I received the Auth Codes in an email the next day.

So this smooth transition in Feb transferring the domains won SnapNames from Moniker to NetSol didn't happen (on many levels). What in fact happened with Moniker unceremoniously dumping all these domains they had already won and in Moniker Control Panel to NetSol. All domains at these Moniker Resellers domains before and after the cut-off deadline were all sent to NetSol (with all it's attendant problems).

I agree with you about the amount of time spent and wasted on this. I have been luckier than many. At least all my domains were newly captured registrations were all accounted for. No missing domains and no expiring domains. But I have wasted XX hours trying to sort this out. One thing for sure is I am never going to buy any Pending Delete domains at SnapNames ever again. And I will check the registrar before bidding on a Pre-Release domain. Anything at Moniker or NetSol, I will not bid on. I am currently on the way to having zero domains at both Moniker and NetSol. Two of the most worst registers I have ever encountered, along with Register, another Web.com asset.

The " new " Moniker looks scarily similar to the old one....too similar.

I think it looks scarier now, imho. At least with the old Moniker we knew it's foibles, and it worked. At this new Moniker, many things are not working. But I don't have any skin in the game since they dumped all my Moniker Reseller registered domains to NetSol :(

I bought a domain name from sedo, on whois, it is shown that the registrar is "finduaname" or snapnames.
I am thinking maybe the seller got it from snapnames.
The domain is still in my moniker account.
I can change its DNS too now.
But i can not fully disable its whois privacy (on my moniker account the whois privacy has been confirmed as disabled, but on whois website such as http://who.is the privacy is still on).
Any idea maybe it is because the "new" moniker?

I have the same issue with a domain won last month at NameJet that is registered with Enom. I just haven't gotten around to contacting them about it.

How do you transfer names out of Moniker? How do you renew names? I'm not able to do either.

I have 30 names there, all won at Snapnames?

Please help! Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

@abc3200 - You should check the whois for each domain to see if they were Registered at Moniker or a Moniker Reseller. I've experienced and heard that all Moniker Reseller registered domains have/were dumped to NetSol. Do you also have a NetSol Account? You might check there for your domains.

Still no response. Looks like i am going to lose the domain. What a way to run a business.

I still have no resolution to my issues. And I do not have the stomach to continue to call and spend hours of my time with no result. So I filed a complaint at the BBB. If I ever get a resolution, I will update.

@opalxx, don't you have an old confirmation of order email or one of those weekly expiration emails from moniker? Any of those things would show your customer number on it.
