I am new at back ordering domains, i have had never used this service before. Well, I am looking for a service which works with "first come first served". I don't want to enter auction and win the domain name just like other back ordering services like, Godaddy, NameJet, Snapnames, Pool etc. Im looking for a service which simple transfer the domain name after catching it for me.

How does Pheenix work? Does it take user to the auction if more than 1 user back orders the same domain name?

Any suggestions?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Pheenix holds auctions just like the others. Name.com and domainmonster.com backorders don't go to auction, but they also don't catch many good names.

It's quite easy to understand why they hold auctions; they simply earn more money! So why wouldn't do it? As the other pro said there are some services that don't have auctions BUT as far as I know, besides not being very good catchers, they charge a much higher fee.

I don't know what Epik does auction wise but they charge you 150$ for a backorder and I would avoid them anyway...

Thanks for great answers. Okay, So can i know the whole process how the "Pheenix" auction system works?

Scenario: abc.com i and 5 other users have back ordered the same domain name. Now what next?

you and he others go to auction ( 3 days long ). The highest bidder gets the domain...easy!

He used to do it first come first serve..Until he got enough people using and talking about it to get action in the auctions.

Hexonet still offers first come-first serve backorders..They do have success as well (although I wouldn't put them at SnapNames/NameJet levels)..

Hexonet is only first come first serve on .ca, .nu, and .se.

Okay! I got it. Let's say. abc.com is given to the highest bidder. Will Pheenix charge all the 3 bidders for back ordering the domain? So even if i don't win? Still do i have to pay the back ordering fee?

no only winner pays so if winning bid is 50 bucks its 50+bo fee

No, it's $18.95 plus bid at Pheenix.

Scenario :

Domain: abc.com
Catcher: Pheenix
Bidders: 3

Now, the domain is in auction for 3 days. My question is, does pheenix charge back order fee from all the bidders or only the winner of the auction + bid fee. ???

I realize now that I misread your post. Sorry.

TO SUM UP :

You place your backorder and then there are two possible scenarios :

A) you are the only one who backordered and if the catch it you pay 18.95$ and the domain is moved into your Pheenix account

B) You and someone else backordered the same name. In this case, if they catch the domain, it will be sent to a 3 days auction where only the people who backordered can bid. At the ens of the 3 days the highest bidder gets the domain. Price will be 18.95 + the highest bid. Once the winner paid the domain is moved into his Pheenix account.

End of the story :)

Hi just wondering if they have a minimum bid and/or set bid increments in the event a domain goes to auction?

Not a lot of info on their sites and the other threads on hear about Pheenix.com seem to all be closed.

right from their site

High Bid Increment
0-49 5
50-99 10
100-299 15
300-999 25
1000+ 50

Total Price = High Bid + Backorder Price

It would be nice if they could catch something though! Out of all my backorders they were able to catch only a tiny percentage.

The good aspect of them is that they are cheap so for those names you are not going to invest 69$ or more Pheenix it's a good alternative.

Pheenix is a great catcher they only have one problem, some days they simply dont even turn their system on to catch or their whole system is down.

THIS is a very very terrible thing as they give you no heads up.

They need to be open asap prior to cut off time and post a message that today our system wont do catches

other than that rock solid catcher or i wouldnt care

Really? I didn't know it.
So maybe I am just unlucky and I backorder when they are down or, most likely, there is too much competition for the names I backorder..

Today once again pheenix without announcing in advance didnt run any catches at least not for .com's

the least they can do is tell people in advance that today we are not catching anything

How do you know?

Strange. They catch 95%+ of my backorders. But then we maybe use them differently. Pheenix is the only drop-catching service I use on a regular basis. For example, if computer.com were to drop. I wouldn't backorder it at Pheenix. I probably wouldn't backorder it anywhere. Although they might beat NameJet/SnapNames occasionally. You cannot expect them to regularly beat these goliaths. There is also everyone else backordering who want their share of the pie.

they catch 0% o days they decide not to turn on their powerful system, on days they do catch they are solid and only became better in the past few months

I wasn't aware of that. I have to admit though that they haven't been very effective for me over the last eight days. AR has caught 25% of the domains I backordered at Pheenix recently and they were even beaten by a Name.com backorder:

W******.com AR
Y******.com AR
I*******.com AR
W*******.com AR
Q*******.com Name.com
H*******.com Pheenix - went to auction

All of the other names I backordered in the last eight days (ten domains) went to stronger catchers.

So out of sixteen domains, AR has caught four and Pheenix just one.

But they have caught some very nice domains in the past and they became very effective again for a time when they introduced some new catching registrars (Julius Caesar etc.).

Hopefully things will get better again soon.
