FOG is the new CLOUD.

Has anyone been reading up on Fog Computing recently? Cisco have brought it to the table to aid the Internet of Things (again).

Anyway, don't know much about it and it's yet another new buzz word to appear this year but I'm starting to get 'registration fatigue' ;) so feel free to look it up and see what's available, although I was surprised at how many FOG related domains have already gone. My two are:

FogServers.com

Fog360.com

Fog is so yesterday, I've been hearing a lot about Smoke lately. Smoke is the new fog.

Smoke > fog + cloud

Before I start registering all the good smoke domains, I wanted to give this community a chance. You have another 4 hours before I go on my rampage starting at midnight. Good luck and be safe out there.

Being in the industry, I really don't see this catching on anytime in the foreseeable future. Sounds kinds cool, but it doesn't really have the techie ring to it.

Not to mention I've never heard of it. :P

I've been doing a little more research before I start registering at midnight from some people in the know.

It's kind of like the Snapchat of Cloud. Puff, puff, pass.... along your files. File sharing. If Smoke gets a hint that the Feds or NSA are snooping, Poof, like a puff of Smoke, it's gone. It's like a big FU to the NSA. It's the future and this is your chance to get in on the ground floor. At least for the next 3 hours and 40 minutes.

If I thought you were remotely serious, we'd be going over the OSI model. Without any research, I'm going to bet on...

A crowdsourced cloud. Like BitTorrent.

You all got it so wrong....

BLIZZARD!

That is way past the cloud, the fogs, the smokes, the mirrors.

Where your site is covering the world in one big BLIZZARD.

You all do the registering of the BLIZZARD domains.

I will bundle up against the BLIZZARD hitting.

The thing I don't like about it is fog=not seeing well, confusion.
but I feel the term will stick because those that cant compete very well with establish 'cloud' will always look for another angle. Like its closer and more dense than cloud. Domaining wise its the same story, the good ones where long taken before it hits the fan.

I think SMAC is still a bigger topic.

"Fog" has the problem of being introduced by one company as a term. Cloud was used ubiquitously in all areas of IT around the world and was just a natural progression and has a nice brandable meaning.

But still enough Kumquat names around to make it not worth venturing into this unproven market.

This is why I do not drink or do drugs while registering domain names.

But by then the fan will have dispersed the fog.

I envision a dual-purpose smoke domain that can be about cloud computing or a marijuana/pot site.
