How Much Is Ok for Unlimited hosting?

I have hosted all of my WebSite on Unlimited Package at UKWebLab.com and they never increased the price on which I signed-up.

Lots of hosting companies have an initial discounted fee for your first invoice if you used a coupon code, then after that - you are back to the regular price.

Was just at Hostgator, and saw they currently have 20% off - $7.16 monthly. This means, if you paid monthly, only your first payment would be at that price. Taking off the default coupon code on checkout, I see that the regular price is $8.95 which explains the increase for your second payment.

Not sure why your latest bill is for $12.

But yes, that's a bit pricey for your plan when compared to other hosting companies. However, the low price you see on most hosting sites are the "starting from" prices that are available to customers signing up for 1, 2 or more year contracts.

Contact their support for an explanation. Tell them you are thinking of moving to another host and ask if they can give you a discount if you change to a longer term.

I did just what you suggested after putting up the post yesterday. But they havent replied my email. Funny that. They are usually quick in answering queries.

If you don't get a satisfactory response, consider waiting until Black Friday/Cyber Monday - there will probably be some good deals to be had from some of the registrars and hosting companies.

No my storage never changed? Matter of fact I took a couple of sites off and parked them with domainsponsor. I think they are just taking the proverbials. I mailed them again and yet no reply. I may move my services to bluehost. Wonder if anyone has had this kind of experience with hostgator before.

There is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth and disk space.

There is such thing as offering a customer unlimited bandwidth and disk space to use (obviously unlimited disk/bw does not exist physically), the loophole is that hosts limit the inodes and the CPU usage. It's all pretty closely linked together, so you can be sure that when a customer is using too much space or bandwidth, they'll be using too many inodes or too many server resources. That's when they get suspended and told to move to a vps, dedi, etc. Realistically, they are using too much space or bandwidth, and this lets them advertise "unlimited" without being sued over it.

As far as HostGator goes, I do not believe they have ever done a price increase on existing customer rates. Please do report back about it, since the company was bought out pretty recently by endurance.

Endurance owns both HostGator, Bluehost and a ton of other hosts. If you do not like HG, stay away from the companies at [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endurance_International_Group"]Endurance International Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

NS and BackorderZone are both right. There are various ways companies go about their limiting, but ultimately, if you use any amount of resources beyond "negligible", your contract will be terminated. There are often hundreds or even thousands of websites sharing a single server; if you use anything significant, they'll cut you off. Usually they put strict limits so that you'd have trouble using much in the first place.

Personally, I would never pay for shared hosting, "unlimited" or otherwise. Proper VPSes are too inexpensive these days to bother with that nonsense. Take Amazon Web Services, for example: a micro instance is free for the first year. After that, it's still less than what you're paying, as long as you pay a portion up front. I reserved a micro instance with them recently for 3 years; I paid $100 up front, and the rest monthly. When the $100 is divided over the course of the three years, the effective cost is just over $5/month. I threw in separate MySQL and memcached instances for similar prices, but you could just host those on the web server. Oh, and don't forget CloudFlare for DNS/CDN, which is free.

Here is the uppate. After 3 emails and no reply I booked a live chat with customer support. So I asked why I was being charged $9.20 then $11.94 even though I signed up for and is using a $7.16 service.

As pointed out in the thread, the $7.16 advertised on the website is with the 20% promo and is only valid for the first month. So that explains the first increase from $7.16 to $8.95. Ok so how did we jump from that to $12? Apparently from January this year VAT started being added to such charges following a directive :

This adds another 20% to the fee making it $11.94.

I decided to keep the service. At least for now. Hostgator have been great only they need to reply to payment related emails. Also they need to make it more explicit that the advertised price is only for a month and what the normal charge would be.

First of all - avoid unlimited plans if you care about your hosting experience.

Shared hosting plans with lots of webspace and resources are available for a cheap price for eg. from $/EUR 1 /mo.

Therefor it is advertised everywhere.
But you are right as I reached some limits with those unlimited packs.

Unlimited offers are mostly marketing tricks to attract more customers, that's all.

I Think that they must be taking more money please confirm them for extra charges or look another hosting provider plan

Think and act wise
