If you have experience in SEO, please help me determine whether I should discontinue using my current SEO company.

My website dropped from #4 to around #15 after Penguin 2.

The SEO company claimed they had nothing to do with it .

But according to this graph, it would appear I lost around 100 backlinks in May (during Penguin 2):

They are the only SEO company that have been used on this website.

Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
This isn't much to go by, but going from #4 to #15 probably isn't Penguin - Penguin is more like going from #4 to oblivion. How are your other keywords doing overall? Just that one page hit, or your site overall?

More likely that several of your linking sites were hit by the May updates.

Aside from that, my only comment is that your anchor text percentage is kind of high and that spike in new links around April would look suspicious to me, if I were a search engine.

Google's updates can shake things up, no matter how careful you are. Sometimes you aren't hit but other sites are more fortunate and gain a few places.

That's my $0.02.

According to the graph it shows the number of referring domains is dropping. As enlytend noted, there is a sudden hike in link count in April, that might alert Google Algorithm.

Before dropping services from your current SEO company you better ask a detailed report of link building actions they have done yet for your website. Try to check backlinks in webmaster tools.

After penguin 2.0 update many websites have lost their ranking in google. So be patient and focus on quality works.

I agree. You should ask for a detailed link report and ask to see which links you have lost. Could be the SEO company added some bad links to your site which could have upset the Google Algorithms when they crawled your site last. It is very important they use whitehat SEO methods and quality backlinks with high authority as backlinks. Are you on a monthly SEO subscription or did you pay a one time fee for SEO?

great_domains, I was on a subscription plan. The SEO company was supposedly using all white hat previously, and got good results -- but post Penguin 2, they suck -- which seems to indicate they were using methods before that were not Penguin-safe (despite their claims to the contrary).
