Hi,

Im domainer, not a newbie, but a buyer has emailed me to buy my domains for $270,000, and I would appreciate your advice please.

Two days ago, I registered 5 domains, and listed them on Sedo. I cant talk about the buyer or my domains due to the nature of the deal, but what I can say about my domains is two small things:

1. $50,000 domains are .com, include a keyword, and have additional extra(s). Quite good.

2. $20,000 domain is .com, include a keyword, has a hyphen, and has additional extras.

What I can say about the buyer is two small things:

1. He's company is a web hosting company. It appears in Google and seems to be a real working website.

2. He is the CEO.

The buyer said he is interested in my domain and asked me to send a list of my other domains.

Here is the actual email I received from the buyer two days ago:

---------

> Hello!
>
> I'm very interested in purchasing xxxxxxxxxxx.com (cant say).
>
> I found it listed for sale.
>
> Please respond with a desired price for your domain in the subject line (in USD, Euros or other currency).
>
> If you have other names for sale please email me your list with prices.

The buyer is interested to buy 5 domains at $50,000 each and 1 domain at $20,000. Total, $270,000.

He said the price is ok. He has a budget of $1,750,000 and wants to buy 20-30 domains.

After I received the ok about buying my domains, he asked for two small things.

Here is his actual email he sent to me:

-------------

Ok. Before we go further I will ask about two small things:

1. We both need a valuation (appraisal of your domain made by independent experts). It will show me you are a legitimate seller and the price of your domain is reasonale based on the last market trends. Please don't worry, it will take only 1-2 minutes to get this verification.

2. I prefer appraisal service that also verifies possible trademark infringements. It's important for me to know that your domain has no problems with trademarks. You should not worry about it. You don't need to pay for this trademark verification service. Some good appraisers include this option (trademark infringement verification) as a free bonus to the appraisal service.

To avoid mistakes and wasting money on useless services I asked in the forum about reliable valuation/TM verification services.

Please read this information:

Most of experts recommend official ICAAN appraisal service. The process is very easy:

1. Go to the official ICAAN appraisal site and order the valuation. After several hours you will get the results.

2. Please resend these results via email and we'll proceed with the deal.

If the evaluation comes higher you can change your asking price. After you send me the professional evaluation via email (usually it takes one day to get the results) we'll be doing business.

Here domain appraisal company the forum members suggested to him was: no_url_shorteners/icaaninfo

I also think that the buyer may be using no_url_shorteners/.icaaninfo because he knows them and/or will get a lower appraisal of my domains and save alot of money because they give a low appraisal.

Im worried that this could be a scam. The fact that he wants an appraisal now after agreeing to initial buy them at my suggested price, which I believe is 3X less than their actual or potential price.

Also, I suggested domainappraisal.org - Used by Marc Ostrofsky, seller of Business.com for World Record $7.5 Million,

Here is his actual email reply he sent to me:

------------

I don';t know any domainappraisal.org and will not accept a service from a cheap unknown source. I need the official appraisal with a TM verification.

You should obtain an official appraisal from the official source -
no_url_shorteners/icaaninfo

Then you send me the results and we go further.

Furthermore, I asked that he send me the money to have the domains appraised. This was to establish if he was genuine, and he wasnt just selling domain appraisals with the domain appraisal company he was told about in the forum.

Here is his actual email reply:

--------

I never pay anything upfront. This is ridiculous.

Please could you Post or PM IMMEDIATELY about whether I should do two things:

1. Pay for the appraisal from no_url_shorteners/icaaninfo - and proceed with deal.

2. Stick to my prices of $50,000 and $20,000 - and not risk an appraisal that may be lower. But it could kill the deal. However, if appraisal is higher, the buyer said he will pay more.

Any other questions or advice you may have would be really appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Appraisal scam

The person sending the offer owns the appraisal company and is trying to trick you into buying a worthless appraisal.

These scams are everywhere.
