How can I use nameservers & mx records with the same domain?

I've been trying to figure this out for a few hours now, I'm just hopeless.

I have a domain name registered on Moniker and I have set the MX Records to Google Apps details. That way, I can use [email protected] with Google Apps.

Unfortunately, I can only enable this MX Records if I set the nameservers to Moniker's default ones (something like ns1.monikerdns.com or whatever it is).

If I set the nameservers so that they point to my hosting, my MX record settings are automatically disabled.

I don't get it...and I don't know how this whole thing works.

My objective: use my own nameservers so that the website is hosted in my hosting account + set MX records so that emails are on Google Apps.

Any experts here that understand what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Most hosting accounts allow you to edit dns entries. So just like how when you have nameservers set to moniker, you can use their control panel to create mx records, when you have nameservers set to hosting company x, you then use hosting company x's control panel to create mx records.

Ahh...so that's how it should work. Thanks a lot for your help -NC-, I'll see if I can do that from the Cpanel of my hosting account. :)

Update: all my problems have been solved. You're a lifesaver, thanks so much! :D
