I have a batch of around 30 brandable dotcoms and I'd like to sell some in a hurry, to raise finance for a new business venture.

How should i go about it? I tried posting a list on this forum (see my debut post) but there's been little interest.

Where should I list them for sale and should I specify prices or invite offers?

Any help would be appreciated.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
There's pretty much nowhere. The issue is one of contradicting points:

1) Your domains are all "brandable" ie. they only have meaning and value in the same sense that the stuff my kid paints looks like the things she says they're supposed to be. ie. they look like it to her, and I can sometimes sort of see it, but you really have to be on the same wavelength as her to really get it. Same with brandable domains -- what is a quality brandable to you is just keyboard banging to someone else, until you find that buyer who looks at the domain and sees the same thing you do.

2) You want a good price (obviously)

3) You're in a hurry to sell them.

These three points are a perfect storm of aggravation for you as a seller. You cannot sell subjective names, at a good price, in a hurry -- the three things just don't go together.

I appreciate your response and of course you're right, but because I'm in a hurry, the price is not the most important thing. Just need to raise a few grand from selling one or several names.

Just seems like there are no websites where you can quickly sell domains.

Nobody on this forum is going to spend a few grand on speculative brandable domains. Nobody in their right mind anywhere would. Brandable domains for resale are speculative investments which by their very nature, are hard to sell. If you really want to sell them quickly, I suggest you auction them off starting at $1 with $1 increments. But don't be disappointed if they don't fetch what you are expecting. Trying to sell them for a few grand will entailing doing some heavy lifting. Researching who might be interested in each domain and emailing them. It's hit 'n miss approach with a less than 1% success rate, which depends how good your initial research was, imho.

"Raising a few grand"... and... "I'm in a hurry", do not really mix well. If that was easy, many people who hang out here at Namepros would be millionaires by now and be somewhere else.

The truth is, a lot of folks are stuck here peddling 20-50 bucks... for years.

Saw the names. I would probably drop them all.

But anyone can argue that AGODA dot com is lousy. But it's a meteor strike to raise 2k with such a name in a short period of time without spending a few grand on marketing investments and domain development.

The fastest way i can think of to raise a few grand in a hurry, would be selling drugs and high class prostitution.

nobody here peddles domains in the class as 'agoda.com' for $20-50. if there's one please let me know.

Based on the WHOIS record from DomainTools, "agoda.com" was dropped sometime in its 10-year history. Perhaps it was worth reg fee back then.

Many "brandables" don't have any meaning to domainers. The domain doesn't make sense. Perhaps it sounds like a scooter, so he hopes a motorcycle company will buy it from him. Only an End-User has an eye on how much a brandable is worth, based on his domain development vision. But of course, he will buy it cheapskate. Not 2 grand. He develops it and turns it into gold. Then every domainer will think every brandable that doesn't make any sense is also worth gold. So he will price his own brandable domains the same as gold. After 5 years with no buyer, he drops the domain. An End-User picks it up for reg fee, and turns it into gold again.

I have an e-commerce site earning revenue as an end-user portal that has 5 drops in its WHOIS record.

true, well it's the art of the domainer to speculate on whether he will ever see a well-budgeted company to buy his agoda.com domain or sell it to the first cheapskate serial entrepreneur for $1500

Yes, it's possible.

But if you are "in a hurry", you'll probably end up selling your agoda for 50 bucks via Paypal.

You have to remember, that the business model of many domainers is to earn a few grand by selling as many 50 bucks as possible. They have no more time "visualizing" a domain's potential. They need to move their inventory out the frontdoor so they can refocus their minds searching for the next set of domains to speculate.

Yep it's true... put your domains on the open market and wait for the right buyer to find his "perfect match" or get on the phones and start selling your names to potential interested parties. Otherwise no one is going to see the value but you. If you have a couple grand to spend on a domain name wouldn't you pick the very best name you could afford?

The problem is you can brand anything. You don't need to pay a domaner 2 grand for a domain, when you can pick another domain up for reg fee. Your list isn't so great in my eyes to warrant 2 grand pricing, unless you go on the "bigger fool theory". But that's just, imho.

I buy now and again some crap domains.
But nothing like your list....
This is my truth!

Put them all on auction and take whatever you can get.

Or be like me and let them just die off.

I second that. The domains are pretty bad. Drop everything and cut losses.

maybe this should be lesson #1. for all newbies

Not what you want to hear but instead of dropping them you may want to list them all on eBay. eBay is usually reserved for junk domains. That said, a lot new buyers are there and easily convinced by a low starting bid or BIN. And by low I mean $0.99-$5. An extra $5-10 beats dropping them or renewing them and spending more money. It's just a matter of what your time is worth.

Or put them on auction here with a start of $0.00.
I just put one up.

Hey, I know this guy! He did get a lot of food.

In my humble opinion brandable names can either be a great purchase or a poor one. You have to think to yourself "what are the chances of a business actually wanting this name." Also brandable domains require patience. It could be years before a business actually wants your name, the founder might not even be born yet!

Where are your domains listed?

I think you have spent more registering those names then you will ever get back, but I wish you the best of luck.

You have the wrong meanings of brandable, domains that actually sell are stuff like sello, or developa.com etc.. that is the brandable, type names people will take a bit of a gamble on. Your stuff is inexperienced mitakes from a decade ago, just re-registered. I think you could probably raise $50 if you were lucky for the whole portfolio, if you found a newbie willing to roll the dice.

I think people are being far too cavalier in this thread.

Veercall and Blutext are both quality brandables. Don't let those drop.

Newsflash guys: the world doesn't revolve around generics. If you take off your domainer blinders for a minute, you'll realize that "generic" is a stinging criticsm in most contexts. Stop pretending that the four word "generics" you spam end users with are any better than what the OP has on display. The crap you peddle is of no use whatsoever, even if someone will occasionally bite with some mythical SEO advantage in mind.

The same people who dismissed the OPs entire list also probably think that most of the names at Brandbucket are garbage. And many of those names are going to sell for significant $$$.

veercall is at a level where people can still hand reg

blutext is too similar to the trademarked bluetext

Sorry for our sound cavalierism
