NameFAQs - http://www.namefaqs.com

I am compiling a list of frequently asked questions about domain names. The goal is to have a base of knowledge that will further help 'Newbies' become 'Name Pros'.

What kind of questions do you think would be fitting to include?

If you'd like to help further the effort, you can post or PM your Domain Related Questions and Answers.

As a little bonus, if your question makes it onto NameFAQs you'll get 25 NP$ out of it, and if you provide a question AND an answer to the question and we use it, you'll receive 75 NP$

Hi everyone,

My question is: if I want to develop a domain, how legal is it to use content from other sites (ie, youtube) in order to generate traffic and therefore revenue for my domain? Thanks!

If you use content with permission or that is in the public domain, you have not problem. YouTube allows you to embed at least your own videos the host on third party pages. Some sites allow content through affiliate programs. However, if just start copying without asking, you will probably end up in trouble.

Anyone know where namefaqs.com went? Did it move or gone for good?

I wonder how many people are now jumping to register namefaqs.com, like spider babies eating their mother?

It's odd that namefaqs.com is dead while its parent namepros.com is still kicking... with no termination post by its owner.

Hi!
Am I allowed to buy domains like for example Battlefield 4 of Matrix 4? Products that are not released yet, but there's a chance that it will be a future project of a big company. Will they sue me or will they buy the domain from me?
I didn't find related informations about that.

As long as you can prove that you did not purchase the domain for financial gain, you may be OK. Creating forums or 'resource' sites for the games/movies is a great way to get around this. Don't buy it and put it up for sale.

That said, certain TM will still chase you even if it is a resource site so be careful.

Question: Are all the Dictionary words gone?

Answer: Some 97 percent of the words in Webster's dictionary have been registered.

I am new here, but i did get into .tv, then .mobi domains and .com years ago but i let all my domains go for personal reasons(to give to the poor) and i just started registering domains again and i have found at least 10 domains,(seems that which i gave up, i got back better as far as im concerned ie-sellingTLD/s.com)1 word and listed on dictionary.com (searching maybe 2 hours)not sure if their in the websters. Had names that werent in any dictionary that are now domains listed as premium for sale by Godaddy IE- informology.com[i was the original informologist.com which was snapped up pretty quick by some genius with a list of degrees longer than my arm, so yeah id say there is definately cause i havent registered them yet hehe and may not ever, i mean whats the worth of a meaningless long dictionary word domain these days? I regged indomitableness.com means you cant be beaten, saprobiology.com the decaying bacteria fungus ology and a few more, i'll list my portfolio when and where i find the approriate place. Best 1 word .com i found last week IMHO was InTechFormology.com (was still there)study of all ology in technical form. I found that word on a princeton univeristy ftp server file many years ago as i was studying the IT which confirmed it was a word as it was a Princeton Uni dictionary file.] As the information is in formation, etc etc blah blah blah wont bore you any longer.

Question: Is it still beneficial to buy aged domain after peguin slapped a lot of domains?

Answer: Yes it could still be a good investment for you money, if you are willing to rebuild to site to solve panda issue's and if you are willing to do keen analysis of the backlinks so you can see if there is an existing peguin issue.

Question: Where's the best site to purchase aged domain?

Answer: you can go to domainka, I've purchased my very first domain in domainka and it worked well, The pricing is also cheap compared to other domain sellers.

Did the Google EMD update effect the prices of Domain Names?

next question

Are the benefit's of buying an aged Domain just a myth?

Matt Cutts say's domain age is an insignificant factor that really carries very little weight in the Google algorithm.

I cant post links yet butt Matt Cutts has a video on this (find it on youtube) and basically the answer is that domain name age is not very important in SEO at all.

zerocool7 - great point. from experience it's better to get a website up as soon as possible just so it starts to get crawled earlier from Google. If you update your site later, try and incorporate your old urls and links into the new site so you don't loose Google search links.
