For those who are not aware of this.

As of this week all Sedo's Make Offer listings are now listed on Godaddy with a $60 minimum offer (Unless seller has a higher preset minimum offer)
Read Article

Since the beginning of the year Sedo's Buy Now listings have been listed on Godaddy but not the Make Offer listings.

Even if you haven't signed up with SedoMLS your domains will be listed at Godaddy.

All sales going through Godaddy to Sedo will have a 20% fee.
There is no option to deactivate this.
If you list your domains with Sedo then you automatically list your domains with Godaddy.

You can create your own sales listings with Godaddy if you choose and that will only be a 10% fee if they sell through Godaddy, but that maybe to much of a hassle for those who have hundreds or thousands of domains.

The extra exposure is great, but be prepared to pay a higher commission fee.

Now, I know someone here will say, "Just add 5% or 10% to your price"
We all know it doesn't always work out like that, a lot of the time the buyer pays what the buyer is willing to pay and not 5% or 10% more.

So there it is.
Good luck

:)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I am not real thrilled about this partnership.

There are major issues -

1.) I have been flooded with lowball $60 offers on SEDO.

2.) Most of my domains are listed as "Make Offer" on SEDO, yet now they are listed via partnership on GoDaddy with a $60 minimum offer.

3.) Their partnership does not allow you to comment in response to offers, or cross-platform bidding.
It says the following on SEDO -

Please note: This bid thread was initiated through our SedoMLS Partner GoDaddy. This partner is not supporting the display of comments at this point in time. Unfortunately this means you can't enter a comment with your offer for this name.

This bid thread was initiated through our SedoMLS partner GoDaddy. Sedo currently does not support cross-platform auction bidding, which means that this buyer could not be bidding in an auction for this name at Sedo.

4.) If I list a domain on SEDO, their listing of my domain blocks me from listing my own domain on GD auctions.

Many of my domains I do not want listed on GD, especially for $60 minimum offers. Yet because they are listed on SEDO now they are listed on GoDaddy.

Is there an opt out option? There needs to be.

I dont think there is an Opt-Out option.
But you can still add your domain to Godaddy's auctions, I just added a name to my GD auctions.
You just cant add a name that you have received an offer on to an auction if it comes through GD.

SEDO/GoDaddy need to release more details on how this partnership works.

If I list a domain on SEDO it is now automatically listed on GD with a $60 minimum offer?

If the domain is already listed and I try to list it myself on GD will SEDO's listing block my listing?

If someone makes an offer on GoDaddy the offer goes to SEDO, but you can't respond with a comment to their offer?

If you start an auction it will start @ SEDO but the person who made the offer might not be in it?

Since the offer is made on GoDaddy I assume you don't even need a SEDO account to make an offer. Let's say you get a $1K offer via this partnership and send it to auction, but there are no more bidders.

The winner would be the initial $1K offer, but that person might not even have a SEDO account?

This stuff needs to be clarified.

Sounds like a real cluster f*ck!

Perhaps it's time to park elsewhere...

No, Sedo does not block your existing GD auction listing.

If you have a Buy Now listing at Sedo then you cant add a listing to GD.
You would need to cancel your Sedo Buy Now then add your listing to GD.

No, Sedo does not block your existing GD auction listing.

My question is not in regards to existing listings.

Let's say I buy Domain1.com and listed it on SEDO.

That listing is automatically going to be added to GD now with a $60 minimum offer.

I later decide to add Domain1.com to GD auctions myself, to lower the fees.

SEDO's listing of my domain will block me from listing it, as it is already listed via their partnership.

This is a real clusterf**k.

I will have to list my domains on GD first, or will be blocked by SEDO listing my domains.

They need an opt out. I don't feel like sorting through a ridiculous amount of lowball offers.

Not to mention if you can't comment on an offer, and there is no cross platform bidding, what is SEDO really doing for their 20% cut?

It seems like an arbitrage opportunity for SEDO. They charge you 20% while they pay a lower %.

You can Still list your domain at GD even after Sedo has listed it with the the $60 minimum Make Offer.

I just did it to make sure.

Not to mention if you can't comment on an offer, and there is no cross platform bidding, what is SEDO really doing for their 20% cut?

Yes that part really sucks.

That is interesting, because in the past when I have had domains listed on GD via Afternic's partnership, their listing has blocked domains I tried to list.

I had to remove them from Afternic first to list them.

GoDaddy and SEDO need to list in detail how this partnership actually works, and what the benefits are.

From what I know so far I don't see many benefits for domain owners.

The only benefit is added promotion, but since you could just list the domains yourself that is negated.

The negatives -

1.) Can't comment to an offer.

2.) No cross platform bidding. How does an auction work if you launch it based on a GD offer?

3.) 20% fee. Higher than SEDO's and GD's standard fees.

4.) All domains listed with no opt out.

It looks to me like the partnership basically benefits SEDO.
They use GD's popularity and become a middle man in the process for a 20% fee.

That is interesting, because in the past when I have had domains listed on GD via Afternic's partnership, their listing has blocked domains I tried to list.

I had to remove them from Afternic first to list them.

That's what I had to do recently. I just ended up deleting all my domains at Afternic, then putting them back, after I list them at GoDaddy.

So now, when I get a domain, I list at GoDaddy first, then Sedo and Afternic.

There should be a simple opt out for this, but there's none that I'm aware of. These companies, Sedo and Afternic, don't exist without our domain names. So they should be listening to us, their customers, but I haven't seen that to this point.

I just want a simple little box that I can check off basically saying the domains I put at any of these places, will be at those places only. For those who want it at other places as well, have that option for them. Options.

What is still blocked it the Buy Now, not the Make Offer.
If you have a Buy Now listed at Sedo then you can Not add a listing to GD without cancling the Buy Now with Sedo first.
But if your Sedo listing is Make Offer then you can list it with GD.

And it should be like the commissions in the the real estate market, then they would Split the commission not double it.

In the real estate market there is usually a 6% commission, if the listing party sells the house the listing party gets the whole 6%
If an outside realtor sells the house then they split the 6% and get 3% each.
That's they way it should be done.

Maybe we have to apply the pressure on them to do what they should be doing anyway. They're a business, it's about money. Not sure if this community can come together and do it. Start with Afternic. Get a bunch of domainers together willing to remove their domains until options become available. Some big time, well known domainers, blog about it, petition maybe. If you can, it'll get done.

Years ago, in the affiliate marketing world, one of the biggest affiliate networks, Commission Junction, had this stupid idea to have all the links going forward to be javascript links. Javascript links as the only option. It was that rare time where everybody agreed it was stupid. Pressure was applied, had a petition going that was hand delivered to them - http://www.revenews.com/affiliate-m...n-on-lmi-thanks-to-jangro-for-taking-a-stand/

and it was stopped.

Not sure if this is that big a deal to people, but when you hurt somebody in the pocketbook, they tend to listen. Again, they should be bending over backwards, listening to their customers, implementing what we want.

I ignore all the low ball offers.

I ignore all the low ball offers.

Be careful in not responding to offers.
Some have used that as cause to try and take your domain away claiming invalid Whois because of no response.

I recently had an opening offer of $99 that turned in to $3000 so ignore at your peril. At least one response is essential.

Here is another cluster f**k
When you cancel or select not for sale at Sedo it does not cancel or stop your domain from being offered at Godaddy.

I just noticed a name I changed to Not For Sale a week ago and it still shows for sale at Godaddy.

Now that's a big problem. >:(

this explains it. I was surprised yesterday to receive a good offer via sedo (MLS, 20% cut) on a domain I only had listed at sedo. I wondered how that happened. even searched to see if the domain popped up on domain selling websites (it did not).

But if your Sedo listing is Make Offer then you can list it with GD.

could you list it on gd as buy-now?

I am wondering if the types have to match on both websites. both buy-now, or both make-offer.

Not good. I suppose better exposure, but 20% in commission is a lot.

Exactly they should be splitting the sales commission not charging domainers more.

@JB just did a blog post about this so it will be on front page of Domaining.com for awhile so hopefully many see it and do what you said.

@Lennco gave you full credit and a link to your Domain Sales 123.

Thanks my friend, rep to you :)

Well, ironically I just received my first $60 offer through the Sedo/Godaddy alliance.

Its actually a $62 offer from Australia, so I countered with a $6200 offer and when I seen the 20% fee of $1240 I almost fell off my chair...Ouch! :O

FWIW, last week I had a 'Buy Now' domain only listed at Sedo (not at GD) sold via GD and Sedo took their 20% cut.

ps My Sedo 'not for sale' names are available at GD auctions (and i didn't list them there) with a $500 min. bid. I'm not sure if I'm happy with this.

Is there a minimum commission aside form the %? At Sedo it's set at $50.

Does that min still apply if the sale is accepted via GoDaddy?

If you park a name (depending on extension) at Sedo and it's sold @ 'buy now', then commision is 10%, no minimum. For example i've had one name sold with a $30 commision.

Does that min still apply if the sale is accepted via GoDaddy?

Good question but i don't know the answer.
