I tried with namecheap where most of my recent domains are regged but since I have a US-based address, it wouldn't take it.
Main concerns for a register, price of registration, easy of transferring name, if necessary, no spam or unwanted phone calls. Prefer a whoisguard/domains by proxy as long as this doesn't affect future transfer or sale of domain.
I also tried domainmonster and it showed $12.99 on the button to add to cart but after I added a couple, they were showing $14.99 + ICANN fee in cart.
