2012 London Olympics

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
With the Olympic Games coming up this month, some pre-game publicity struck me as just a bit odd.

1). The official Olympic Theme song video was released on the 4th of July. Its sounds a bit Queenish... which kinda makes sense, and I do like the guitar wales. But the 4th.?. Really? The day the U.S. celebrates its independence from the Crown. A bit odd.

But no biggy, though the London organizers shoulda waited a day if only not to bury a news worthy release on a holiday. Maybe they don't like the song? The title "Survival" is also odd, IMO, for the Olympics.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66molzUEkWI"]Survival[/ame]

2). BP, the company responsible for the worst oil spill in U.S. history, just a year ago, is listed as a "Sustainability Partner". Odd. When did oil become a sustainable product?

I get that BP, aka British Petroleum, is a logical sponsor for the London Olympics... but trying to use the Olympic platform as a springboard to greenwash BP will likely backfire, and tarnish the games in the process.

Also, on the domain "cyber-squatting" front: The Olympic website: london2012.com. The BP website: bplondon2012.com
I doubt a domainer could get away with that.

I get the thinking behind banning bottles and long lens cameras, but Che T-Shirts? WTF
Perhaps they are trying to qualify Silly Bans as an Olympic sport... in the spirit of Monty Python's Silly Walks.

Bottled water, long-lens cameras and Che Guevara T-shirts all banned from London Olympics Stadiums

I love the hidden ironies in this post... as the latest fossil and DNA evidence indicates Asians "discovered America", not the Italians via Columbus.
On the other hand, or leg in this case, (American) Jeans came from Jeane, Italy where they were first made in the 1400's.

Revealing, once again, the strong interwoven threads of diversity that shape the fabric of humanity.
This is what the Olympics really celebrates, under guise of flag & country.

Team USA will be wearing Chinese Made Olympic Uniforms at the Summer Olympics in London. How embarrassing! :red: Don't they have any textile factories left in the US, or have they all been outsourced?

The American athletes should refuse to wear them and show up at the opening ceremony with Blue Jeans, Made in USA. You can't get more American than that.

Olympics is a very important aspect for every country.

India is one such country which will have many athletes to represent our pride and our inspiration towards our company.

Apparently NBC is blocking live coverage of Opening Ceremonies, so we can watch it later tonight, not live. Tried YouTube blocked in U.S. tried BBC, blocked in U.S. Proxy time I guess or find some other site to watch it on.

So far I am an hour into it here in Calif and I have to say I am not too impressed with the opening ceremonies, to much film being used, dancing is just ok and most of the music is prerecorded and its just samples of hit songs.
I hope it gets better.

It made me sick to see our USA athletes march out in Chinese uniforms, and to make matters worse they looked more French then American.

Ralph Lauren should be ashamed.
He bitched that he couldnt get American clothing made in time. Well Ralph you could have went to the Gap and pick up this iconic Red, White and Blue American outfit,

I say this should be our Olympic uniform for 2016

B-)

The games have ended with a spectacular closing ceremony, that was even better than Beijing in my opinion.

Brazil had 2 dramatic losses in team events. Yesterday they lost to Mexico in the soccer final and today they lost to Russia in the volleyball final after being 2-0 up and having a set + game point on the 3rd set, they choked and allowed Russia to beat them 3-2

The basketball final was won without surprise by the US team, though Spain were a worthy opponent.

Just a shame that this thread was ignored. It shows that the present Namepros community is just not the same as before

Went to see the athletics on Saturday night - was incredible.

Loved the opening ceremony - was quintessentially British. It was far more witty and intelligent than previous opening ceremonies.

I began the thread with high hopes of participating -more than I have, but was unable to 'get away' from the biz to enjoy the games much.

Like any community, in tough times there's less time for 'games'. NamePros, and this thread, reflects that reality.

I enjoyed what was posted, thank those who contributed... and all who gave us a look.

When the Beijing Olympics were over people were saying that it was a hard act to follow, but the Brits showed the world it could be done. Now the Brazilians will also have a hard act to follow.

Thanks London and the Brits for a memorable games. :sold: Looking forward to Rio. Time to start practicing my Samba moves.
