I have seen quite a good development in Firefox versions! The most good update which I saw was from 3.6.9 to firefox 4. But in recent last 2 years I have seen Firefox making lot of version names even for smaller changes! It's like last night when I slept I was having Firefox 11 but in morning it got updated to version 12. I agree to be updated but is it necessary to give a new version name for every minor update? If you see Internet Explorer for every version they introduce something new! for example Internet Explorer 9 from Internet Explorer 8..So Don't you think FireFox is in the mood of increasing the no. of version race?

Normally it's bug fixes/security fixes/updates will not result in a version change.

For example, a bug fix may result in 3.6.8 to 3.6.9

New features or enhancements will create a version change

In this scenario, it may be version 3 to version 4.

I have also seen roll up patches which have bug fixes/security fixes/updates also with new features taking it to the next version.

It's just the convention followed by the company. Thank your stars it's not enterprise wide software with de support notices if you do not upgrade to the next version. Night mare I tell you :)

I totally agree with you, FireFox is really in the mood of version race. FireFox should make some major updates then they should update thier version.

yes right, As for summary let me explain:
Yes there is a Glitch about it! You would have seen for every minor update , you need to pray to god that this new version should be incompatible with your Add-ons and As a matter of fact all of us know that most probably there occurs the incompatibility of Add-ons for every couple of Updates with unnecessary version name competition! I am not saying that we should not Update but I am saying , why should we get in the dilemma for every version name and incompatibility of the Add ons? If we look to chrome , the situation is quite good compared to Firefox's !
