Hi everyone! I just went to add some of my domains to afternic, to see that one of them came up as already for sale on the site! :yell:I rechecked to make sure I typed it in ok (bix1.com), and I did. It says someone named Frank Schilling is selling it with a $5k pricetag!! I'm very confused as I hand-regged it a few weeks ago and it's in my GD account.

Anyone know what's going on or what I do about this?

I assume that the domain had been registered before and was dropped, as no income/traffic and not really a great generic domain. the owner before, offered the domain on afternic but didn't remove it when the domain got dropped.

Frank Schilling is the owner of what is probably the most valuable collection of domain names in the world.

The poster upthread is no doubt right about it being an oversight.

If Frank Schilling selling it you might want to triple check that you really own that name

Frank doesn't hold his domains with GoDaddy, last time I checked

I just googled and found out who he was. If this wasn't the "newbie" section I might feel pretty stupid for not knowing that. haha

In any case, is this a common occurrence where you might find one of your own domains for sale by accident? The only way I know how to make sure a name is mine is 1) I remember buying it lol 2) check my GD account to make sure it's still there 3) my name is also on the whois.

Does it ever occur that you buy a name and you somehow do not own it? Can names get swiped from you? I'm a little confused by this.

I'm guessing this has been resolved? The name does not currently have a BIN price on Afternic.

I get this all the time as well. It's because the previous owner didn't delete the name from their Afternic account. Just contact Afternic and tell them you can't list it because of that, and they'll remove it for you, and then you can list it.

I keep a list of all the domains I own, and they are safe, offline, on my computer. I would advise you to do the same. If one of your domains gets "swiped" which could very well happen (no one and nothing is safe in this world) then at least you will know it.

Personally I might have just "let it be" .... I mean the name had
the greatest provenance in the industry. :p

This seems to happen often.

I guess this would serve as a good reminder that whenever you aquire a domain, to go and check all the major listing sites like Sedo, Afternic to make sure it's associated with your account.

I'm not sure about that but I bought a domain and I keep getting emails from GD saying I need to except the domain but it was never there for me to except and I never did get the domain in my account, thank goodness I only paid a couple bucks for the domain.
