The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Just because he knows your email and domain name doesn't mean he can steal your domain. This can be found in non-private WhoIs data on any domain. Now if you sent him your registar's username and password too then you may have a problem :).

Any domain name that's protected by whois guard will automatically forward the email to your original email account you signed up with at that registrar.

They don't know how to contact you because your information is hidden due to the privacy setting.

Well its not so easy to hack your email. If it was so easy then there wouldn't be any domainer. So don't worry All is well.

Sorry but i have to say that your domain is stolen now.
By replying to such an email, you gave him everything he needs to take away the Domain from you.

jk, don't worry, this is probably a genuine interest in your name. They probably want to buy it. keep us informed what happened after you told them your price.

I think you are fine. Sounds like a genuine inquiry. It could always be the "feel them out" email that comes first before trying to sell you something (scam appraisal, etc), but it can't hurt to at least reply back if you are interested in selling. Good luck either way.

Seems like we are unique!

Received this too! it's just a scam don't worry, they will probably email back with a website link full of adsense or something.

oimr may be correct. If they do respond back stating the are interested in buying your name but want you to have it appraised at a service they suggest just delete the email and move on.

I received the exact same email last night.

I haven't received a reply yet, but if I do I will post back.

I received a reply back a couple of minutes ago. He offered me $9,000 for my domain name, which is in the ballpark of what I'd sell this particular domain for. I have a feeling that this is his standard offer though, because the email sounds just as canned as the first email.

It's not an appraisal scam, his email directs me to an "auction site" that was created two weeks ago and has whois privacy.

Domain Name: toselldomains.com
Registrar: Spot Domain LLC
Expiration Date: 2013-02-16 05:10:11
Creation Date: 2012-02-16 05:10:11

My guess is, once you sign up you'll transfer your domain to his fake escrow service and never see a penny.

Here is the full text of his email reply:
Sorry for delayed, i lost your email in bulk folder.
my customer offer is $9000 for your domain
i want buy though www.ToSellDomains.com its secure for both

You just list domain on there, then make buy now price is $9000, send me your link so i can purchase domain on your aution
let me know asap,

I'd stay away from this one.

I just checked the site and all the sites listed are for $9000. It's pretty clear what the person is doing. They are writing spam e-mails to many people to generate traffic for their site. IMO they have no intention of buying your domain.

I suspected it was a canned reply, thanks for confirming.
