German privacy watchdog dislikes Facebook's 'Like'

Thilo Weichert, the state of Schleswig-Holstein's data protection commissioner, has recently ordered state/gov institutions to shut down fan pages on Facebook and remove the 'Like button' from their websites. The statement Weichert issued is that the 'Like button' leads to viewer profiling and that this violates German and European privacy laws.

FB like button is evil IMHO. I can't believe so many sites are willing to add it. I refuse and I don't stay logged into my FB account so when I do visit sites they don't track me. It's none of their business what sites I visit.

I didn't realize the Facebook "Like" button had an analytics tool built in. This is a serious problem.
