I never got any emails about it, but suddenly all of my domains registered at Netfirms have become TUCOWS regged domains.

Not only that, my private whois settings were all disabled. I checked my account with Netfirms, and the domains are still intact. But i had to manually reenable the private whois settings again.

Is Netfirms going down ?????????

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I did get the email:
"I am pleased to announce that Netfirms will soon be transitioning to a new hosting platform, allowing you to benefit from:

* A simpler domain management interface with improved layout and navigation, custom designed from the ground up, based on user feedback.
* More bulk domain editing functionality, providing greater convenience to customers managing multiple domains.
* Easier domain renewal management.
* Increased network security and a larger systems operations team.

What You Need To Do

In the weeks and months ahead, we will be working very hard to make this platform migration a successful one. As with any change, there will be differences in the way you manage your account. Not to worry, though: we will be in frequent communication with you to walk you through the process.

If you have any questions in the meantime, be sure to visit our transition information site

, where you'll find the most up-to-date information on the migration. We will continue to update the site with new information as it happens. Also, please do not hesitate to contact us by calling 866-317-4678 (press "1" for information regarding the transition) or emailing [email protected].

Please note: as part of the transition, domains will be transferred from the Netfirms registrar account to a registrar account with Tucows. This transfer will have no effect on your domains or where they point, and you will continue to manage your domains through your Netfirms control panel, just as you do today. More details >>

Why We're Changing Platforms

We started Netfirms 13 years ago with a goal of delivering top-notch domain and web hosting services to as many people as we could. Today, with 1.2 million hosted domains, we can't help but be proud of how far we've come -- and how far you've taken us. And now it's time to take the next step: bringing our vision, our passion and our support to even more people in the coming years.

To help us take that next step, one of the top domain management and web hosting teams in the industry has acquired the Netfirms domain and hosting business. We realized that we needed a more scalable infrastructure, and that moving to an existing hosting platform, with proven reliability, would cause far less disruption to customer accounts than developing a solution in-house.

Please take a moment to review our revised Terms of Service

, which will take effect on April 1, 2011. When customer accounts are migrated to the new hosting platform, customer data will, of course, continue to be hosted on a secure and confidential basis. Please review the new Netfirms privacy policy

if you have any concerns.

The new Netfirms team has been in the business even longer than we have, and we trust them not only to continue providing the great service you've come to expect, but also to offer a variety of new features to help you better manage your domains. More importantly, they have a proven track record of delivering on the same vision that we've all worked toward for the past 13 years.

We appreciate your ongoing support, and we understand that you, our customers, have made Netfirms the company it is today. On behalf of the entire Netfirms team, I wish you all the best.

Sincerely,

Thomas Savundra, CEO
Netfirms"

Is Netfirms going down ?????????

Netfirms got bought by Endurance International Group, which also owns ipowerweb, powweb, easycgi, dot5hosting among many other hosts. Their most recent buyouts include Justhost, Bluehost (aka Hostmonster) and now Netfirms.

Pretty soon all the hosting accounts will probably be transfered to their vDeck based control panel. It shouldn't be much of a step back from Netfirm's proprietary control panel though.

Netfirms Customer Service

Have any of you been having poor service with Netfirms now that they are Tucows owned?

A couple of things that I have noticed:

There is now an option to pay with PayPal (GREAT!) but it doesn't work for me - says I need a verified account - which I already have.

The other issue has been transfers. I am not receiving any confirmation email after initiating a transfer with my authinfo code. Every time I transfer a domain name in, I have to initiate a support ticket to have them re-initiate the transfer. I know it is the system as the losing registrar is not receiving the request from Netfirms.

I do like their support ticket system with the ability to review the old tickets etc..., but the support has been pretty dismal - they appear to not be reading the complete issue in the tickets, nor do they refer back to other tickets when referenced. This forces me to go through the details of the issue over and over with them.

I did have them call me once - to actually speak to a person is great - unfortunately it did not resolve the issue. I miss being able to call support from the old Netfirms and get someone who knew what they were doing.

..or maybe I am just resistant to change :bah:

@oatmealdesign

I am completely unhappy with Netfirms since they were bought by Tucows.

Two of my big issues;

1) Names set to manual renewal being automatically renewed and netfirms refusing to correct the issue when I contact them the very day they renew my domains that I didn't want anymore.

2) I haven't tried very recently, but the last 2 times I tried to transfer domains out of there I wasn't able to!

Prior to Tucows, I was quite happy with them

I transferred out of Netfirms/Tucows a couple of my expiring domains recently. They transferred out just fine. I got the autho codes on my email in about 3 minutes for each of those domains. I haven't transferred a domain INTO Tucows yet, though.

About renewals, I do make sure that i transfer out about 1-2 months before expiry. I always have this fear that Registrars will attempt to screw you up as you come closer to your expiry. So that's probably the reason why i haven't had any issues with transfers so far. I transfer as early as i can afford it, to a registrar that honors the remaining time left with my previous registrar (plus 1 year).

Transferring out early doesn't solve my problem though, because these were names I didn't want and had set to renew manually, so, that they would drop. I'll be deleting them a month before renewal next year.

I'll try transferring out the names I want to keep again soon. Must have been some bugs with their new platform.

Whoever answers tickets sucks. I've had multiple issues of the sort that you describe but one phone call always does the trick. If you haven't called yet, I think that's the only way to get shit doen with Netfirms now.

I haven't tried transferring out yet. I did not that to see my expiry dates on the vdeck system - I had to go through each domain name (about 150) and click on the contact button, the refresh the page before the expiry dates would show up. Apparently they could have fixed it for me - some sort of bug when they switched things over.

I am just getting a bad feeling about all of this. I expect a company like Tucows to have it all figured out already and it just to work. Just no time to screw around with this stuff.

Any referrals for domain registrar? I started out with GoDaddy, but they didn't do .ca at the time and I had wanted everything in one place. Had a customer that was using Netfirms and recommended it, so I registered a couple of .ca names and liked it, then transferred the whole kit. Crap.

I like canspace.ca for .ca

Having all tld's under 1 registrar is way more expensive.
