Dynadot now offers a backorder service

NameSilo
Watch
  • Customer won't be charged until domain is successfully caught.
  • Domains backordered by more than one customer will be auctioned off privately.
  • Very affordable pricing: just $11.75

You can find it at:

Nice move.

This is bad news, however, for API catchers for obvious reasons.

I just started using Dynadot recently for my domains, very happy with their prices overall

I submitted a few names but sad that they don't catch any one for me

Which makes Dynadot worse than GoDaddy, the turd standard in drop-catching.

I got one Domain off Dynadot. Lost 8 Domains!

If I see something I want, I use a GD backorder. If it's heavily desired, I'd use snapnames. I don't see these guys offerig anything better than the rest. ppl don't seem to care for Dynadot's services, anyway.

I like them a lot. I'll try their backorder service, now I know about it. I was only thinking about this just the other day. If it's on a standard with GoDaddy, that's ok for my needs.

So I just took a peek. Their menu isn't working. Backorders aren't private like at GoDaddy.

I'm a big fan of Dynadot. Their control panel is intuitive, where GoDaddy's has always seemed like a laggy, poorly-designed, web app. I do all of my hand-regging through Dynadot (prices are great, w/o the coupon hassle, as long as you spend $500 a year).

I plan to test their backorder service against GoDaddy tomorrow.

I have been used Dynadot for years and that Site down often.
Domain register efficiency has slowly since 2008

I dunno,

Back order when you can renew your name well into the expired names
auctions? I would venture to say the lowest of quality names might be
grabbed. The auctions and late owner renewals will get the good ones
first.

Well I tried their backorder service. I backordered 5 domains becoming available over the coming 3 days. The first domain was caught by Andrew Reberry, yesterday. The second just dropped but Dynadot said it failed to capture the domain. I managed to hand-reg it at Dynadot. The 3rd, Dynadot said it hadn't dropped yet, but it had. I also managed to hand-reg it at Dynadot. The last two drop tomorrow. So my experience of today's drops is their backorder service is useless (even worse than GoDaddy's).

I was a big fan of Dynadot until they extremely upset me with their stubbornness over a problem with their expired domain auctions. I don't remember anymore how many emails I have sent them. I'm still upset with them. Details are in my signature link.

Dynadot have only 2 registrars credentials I think. They could beat the handreggers but they will seldom beat the heavy hitters.

I've backordered at least 50 domains @ GoDaddy. They weren't great domains but were good, nevertheless. I think GoDaddy acquired over 1/2 of them. I have a feeling that I don't wanna try Dynadot...

So far I have backordered 10. All say Failed.

Well they are no different to GoDaddy over this issue.

How many were available for hand-reg after they said they failed? Did you check? I found my two domains today were available for hand-reg, despite at least one (and I suspect both would have) said it failed.

I agree with this. But that's ok. They're cheaper than the big guys where maybe the $69 pays off in terms of better capture rate. That's why I used to use Godaddy, to capture domains which nobody else picked up. I don't want to use GoDaddy any more because I'm transferring my Domains away from them. So when Dynadot started offering this service I jumped at it. But right now they cannot even beat their own hand-reggers, and incorrectly state the capture failed, even though the domain was available.

The first domain was caught by Andrew Reberry, yesterday.

He goes after *everything*.... amassing quite the collection.

If you're not charged if it's not caught - it doesn't seem like much of a risk to put things on backorder. Might get lucky, I suppose and it's not a trumped up bumped up charge like other sites...

The downside - you could have saved $4 by just waiting to hand reg it. Like everything else, they will find their area. There a 'domainer' registrar so their reputation for catching will not be easy to escape.

Would have caused chaos in .TV if they'd opened that up a year ago. Oh well.:hehe:

Glad to see Erdy in here not trying to take the thread off topic.

Haven't tried their backorder as no longer looking to accumulate names but sell and reduce over the coming year.

I do use them for most of the names that I hold now and am slowly moving over the major portion of the rest of my names taking advantage of the "bulk" discounts. I like the interface, simple and easy to use.

Dynadot.com- no problem for me. No names at all at Go Daddy.

Is Dynadot backorder system based solely on 1 registrar, or are they working with "partner" registrars?

So they went after my money and decided to do the auctions themselves.
Its the second time they go after my money: first one was the introduction of the proxy bidding.
Well, no need for API keys now, and no need to pay extra on Dynadot.
Moved once from Domainsite, moving now to Godaddy.

OK. They at least seem to be not failing on domains which are available any more. But they do only "seem" (you obviously cannot prove it) to catch the domains nobody else wants, just like GoDaddy. So they are cheaper than GoDaddy but more expensive than just hand-registering. I'll continue to use them because then I won't need to get up at 3am to check availability. But I don't really like that the backorders are public. They're still private at GoDaddy at least.

I personally think they're the best "new" registrar.
