The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.NET is the second most popular gTLD in the world.

Not having heard of .NET is pretty ridiculous. This is not some obscure extension.

I personally love .net have never owned a .org but see a name thats available in both extensions i want to develop. And this dude is not normal, if you saw the video i took of him on my iphone and put on facebook you would realize there is only a couple things that really matter to him.But yes to have not heard of .net is ridiculous
So if you could have a health domain name in .net or .org which one would you register or would you do both?
Also have come across a dictionary word that is a .org that i really like.
Thanks for your input, Brad

I am a big fan of .ORG, but in general .NET is better as a reseller. Health is an especially strong niche for .ORG though.

A health related term like "Health Insurance" would be great in both .NET and .ORG, but many commercial product related domains are far better in .NET, for example DumpTrucks.net is a lot better than DumpTrucks.org

I think health domains are equally good on both .net or .org. Like Brad, I'm a big fan of .org. So I'd reg both and redirect the .net to the .org. Also like Brad, if you are looking at resale, the .net would beat out the .org in most cases, but not all. To be blunt, I can't recall selling either a .net or .org for any great money, only the .com. If you are developing and not reselling, I'd be quite happy with the .org or the .net, with a slight preference for the .org. Of course it might be dependent of the usage for the domain. After all, we are speaking in generalities here.

Health domains suit .org very well, esp information based websites cf .net. Must be viewed upon on a case by case basis though.

I think that it really depends on the context that you plan on using the name. .net and .org are both viable options that should be considered
in my opinion.

find .net and .org pretty equal
.org seems to be pretty popular when it comes to health- and education-related areas

IMO .net (unless you have organizational, more non-profit oriented stuff)

As mentioned before, not having heard of .net is kinda silly.

For me, if there is no .com, I will go for .org.

I think it really comes down to personal preference since most search engines will not prefer over the other. You can also set up a poll here or somewhere if you really can't make up your mind, and ask them which one looks and sound better, "mydomain.net" OR "mydomain.org"

If .COM is not available, I always choose .NET then if not again, my last choice is .ORG.

I was looking at this weeks domain sales at dnjornal.com
http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm and in the non .com gld's .et,.org.info.biz the top 10 sales, 8 were .net and 2 were .info
there are some sales of .org any of which I would take even acousticguitar.org fetched 3000

There's about a million threads here about this, but in general we like .org more and do better with sales of them, BUT we don't just get anything and everything "decent" looking in .org. There's a science to it - certain things fit .org well, certain things don't.

The site is worth. TLD is just a symbol. The good domain will be worth with any TLD.

I must say when I think about it I have had more luck with selling .org's then .net's.

Yet for some reason I still prefer .net where possible over .org unless of course the name really fits .org.

Clear as mud? lol

:talk:

right now, many LLL.org are selling for more than some LLL.net

and some LLL.org are in same range of low tier LLL.com

Really depends on the application of the site but as others have already said, .org fits the health vertical pretty well, especially if it's an informational site. If it's commercial, .net might be the the better choice. Personally, I'd get both if I'm really serious about developing the site into something worthwhile.

Usually .net, IMO, unless the name is for a charity, organization, group or something like that.. Then the .org might be more appropriate.

.Com domains will always be king but if the keywords are desirable enough and the price tag on the .com is out of your budget, there is no shame in taking a .net, especially because of the rapid registering of domain names.

.net is always better, unless you're going for a nonprofit.

Thanks for all the opinions, keep them coming. I bought a couple names and couldnt decide between .net or .org so i bought HealthDollars.both extensions

I prefer to grab .NET domains most of the time as they have a far more diversified use over .ORG domains and are worth more too.

The .net is more valuable. Good luck!
