Good news for .CO investors. It would be interesting to see how Amazon uses these names. If .CO registry keep getting big names and keep same pace of marketing, no doubt it will make extension more popular, desirable and therefore valuable.

I would expect amazon to use A.co to help it get A.COM if/when it is released, they already have a trademark for A.com in place

Thanks for sharing the news. I am waiting for these domain extensions to become popular and raise their value.

Those domains will probably never be available.

You never know.
Nominet is now releasing short (LL) .uk domains that were previously unavailable. Given that Icann needs $$$$$ to sustain their lifestyle and grand plans, it wouldn't surprise me that they release (and auction) the names one day. After all, there is no valid reason for keeping these names frozen.

It is good to see companies like overstock and amazon paying so much for .co's - because I really need to sell mine

Plus I think it's a really cool extension that I hope becomes very popular.

You have single letter .cos?

You can have a trademark in place for something that doesn't exist? :o

Quite frankly I find it completely idiotic that such a trademark was ever allowed, what is therefore stopping me from trademarking !.com or ?.com and then going after Ask.com due to supposedly having the most relevant use regardless of whether I can actually use it or if it is even possible.

(It may be possible in the future)

You can have in the UK. I am not sure about other jurisdictions.

Overstock is lightly advertising O.co as a shortcut domain. Amazon is probably going to do the same thing.

I'm not optimistic that this helps .co on a meaningful level since the use is so second rate.

Perhaps you should define your definition of "lightly" for us.

Changing their logo to: O.co (also known as Overstock.com) is a very BOLD move.

Every TV ad they have takes a good portion of air-time to advertise the o.co shortcut.

You're talking about a company that deals with billions of $ in revenue over the years. I'm not sure I could count such bold moves as "light".

Overstock.com can do what they want, but .CO investors hitching their hopes to O.co elevating the value of mediocre domains are dreaming.

Overstock is a relatively small company, with a market cap of $325M, a small fraction of other major online retailers.

Overstock.com didnt change their name, they just mention O.co is their new internet shortcut....

Also kind of makes you wonder what (if anything) Amazon paid for the domain.. Personally if I owned a relatively unknown extension I would give out premium domains for largest worldwide corporations with an agreement they use them.. Becuase until .co gets recognized by the masses, the extension will not reach a decent value.

PERSONALLY I wouldn't want to start a website using .co becuase i feel like a TON of people would hear my website name and end up at the .com out of habit. It I started SweetShoes.co I feel SweetShoes.com would benefit from my marketing..
Also does anyone know if there have been an lawsuits of similar .com/.co domains yet?

Didn't say they did. I just said they changed their logo.

But I do agree with you on developing .co names, it would take a long time for users to become familiar with the .com/co difference (if things even head in that direction for .co)
