It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

I'm thinking about toothbrush sales, not the dentist professional.
Generally I think you attach .pro to something and it could brand a professional line of that product. Offering an extra incentive to buy a product.

Recall.pro could be developed to focus on product recalls.

remember.pro could be developed for anything invoving memory. You can find relavent products to promote including:

http://www.brilliantdreams.com/contact/affiliates.htm

Anyway, I felt there was enough tangible commercial value to add them to the mix of domains I own.

I own quite a few pros based on that premise. Turf.pro for example. I'm not aiming at the botanist who does genetic research on turf and sod. I'm aiming at the turf grass growers or possibly the fertilizer manufacturers. If I was trying to sell chemicals to a golf course superintendent I would love to end our conversation by telling him that he can "find us on the net at Turf.pro." The name alone would have sold the superintendent that I used to work for.

Dead on! Powertools.pro and Powertool.pro that I have is an example of this. Anyway, on the larger picture if .pro grows to become more popular and familiar extension which it appears to be doing then I think most single and catchy domains will have some value. whether its 1K or 15K i'm not sure it really matters. The growth potential is strong.

On another subject that bears keeping in mind. A few years ago I was told by a number of the "experts" that I should stay away from two and three word domains. At that time we were talking about dot Coms, but I was warned that the potential just wasn't there in any extension.

The list below contains FIVE two-word domain names and one three-word name. And they are all from last week's DNJournal "top ten."

ConsumerBrands.com - $65,000
TucsonRealEstate.com - $50,400
BusinessEnglish.com - $43,000
GolfHolidays.co.uk - $36,700
HealthcarePayments.com - $35,000
OnlineBet.gr - $24,000

coupons.pro is a hell of a value at $1,800 now at auction on sedo. I understand some .pro's not to be valued near their .com equivalents. but valuate.com places coupons.com at $4 million. Even at 1% of the .com value...thats 40K?

You can't really compare .COM and .PRO, they are two different things. There are names that might sell for millions in .COM and struggle to sell in .PRO

I don't think most .PRO are worth 1% of the .COM to start with. Many more popular secondary extensions (excluding NET/ORG) don't even sell for 1% of the .COM

"Coupons" is an excellent term and the .INFO sold for $17,600, .TV sold for $10,009.

Realistically it will end in the Low - Mid $X,XXX range.

I have some that I think are pretty good but I don't think I'm going to top that. Do you mind saying if you hunted for that one or got it on the drop?

so why doesn't the .pro registry adopt a stronger marketing plan. I would think that with the next initiative after .xxx which is the introduction of 1000's of potential .tld's that now would be the best time to organize one. Has anyone had contact with the registry to see if there have been talks of anything? I know that many companies and big money is organized around the new extension releases.

Keep in mind that the strength of .pro is significant, especially given the fact that its an established brand and been in the market a while now. I was trying to think of potential marketing concepts that .pro could use to really define itself. The best thing I could come up with is comparing it with a franchise. We as domain holders typically rely on the brand to promote the extension while we operate the individual domains. Being promoted as a reliable internet franchise with a defined set of advantages and support structure for its domain owners could help set it apart as well as broadcast publicly the brands reliability and strength.

Yes, the brand is growing at a nice steady clip and maybe they are happy with that., but I personally think the extension has some real key point that could be plugged in a marketing plan that in my oppinion should rely on the stability of the extension. Business people will want to invest in something they can trust will be around a long time. .Pro has been around and presents itself as a very viable alternative for business to plant themselves online. In face of 1000's of potential flash in the pan extensions..a steady line of growth means reliability.

I think the registry should sieze this opportunity to branch out with a marketing plan to further define itself in this sea of confusion of new emerging brands.

I'd like to hear from anyone that has some insite or correspondence with the pro registry about this. Also, maybe there is some opportunity to come together of those of us on this board to make a recommendation to the board. Between all the people who frequent this board the total domains owned could represent 5% of the current market share. (based on 100K registrants 5% is 5,000 domain names of which I could account for between 250-300 with another .pro domainer that I know not on this board.)

Coupons.pro sale

Wow, it looks like there was a last minute bidding war for coupons.pro!

Winning Bid:

$6,101.00 USD

That must kind of hurt losing by $1.00. Congrats to AK on another great sale!! I hope we'll see a nice site being developed with this name.

Just a few weeks into the second quarter and Andrew is knocking them down one by one.

The registry should be pounding the war drums and blasting the horns. This is perfect advertising for the Pro extension.

Really nice sale Andrew !!! Many Props to You !!!

Registered Bobblehead Pro and Bobbleheads Pro. Maybe I could sell bobbleheads. No trademark concerns.

.
I just don't know what to think about a bunch of Pro domainers that don't want decent Pros for $22.

I'm going to put together a list of Pros to post in the Fixed Price section. I'm not sure how many there will be. 50 to 100 I'm thinking. $22 each. But I'd prefer not to spend time compiling a list if there's no interest. If a couple of people are interested I'll set up the listing (or PM the list).

If you think it'll diminish the value of the Pros by posting a public listing at a low price then I'll not make the post. Rather I'll PM the list to anyone interested.

I hope you have a nice Pro weekend.
Chas

PS: has anyone heard from AK? Is he being coy about his sale? B-)
