Wow, exploiting women in your ad's was something I could get over, but this? Why would you on earth ever want to hurt an innocent elephant. Don't understand why GD have allowed this vid to go public, being a muti-million dollar company you would think they would have a decent public relations department, guess not! So un-cool Godaddy I'm also transferring away. :(

If you will use a practical mind about it, I'm not sure how shooting an elephant would be any different from a police officer who decides to shoot a grizzly bear or a mountain lion.

From what i can understand from the news, elephants are Africa's version of grizzly bears (in terms of being a menace to their communities).

Honestly, i don't understand why parks and wildlife officers in the US, had to shoot and kill a bear that had attacked mountain hikers. Perhaps the same reasoning can be used as to why they shoot elephants in Africa. And mind you, elephants can be deranged killers that can attack villagers at night.

Also, i think Bob never said he shot the elephant for his pure enjoyment. The reporters were the ones who made that conclusion.

But having the villagers wear Godaddy caps while butchering the elephant for their meal, is probably bad taste corporate advertising though.

I come from a place where the elephants are domesticated (something similar to pets) and are integral part of the culture. Even individuals own them. You can read about it here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephants_in_Kerala_culture

So I strongly disagree with your logic. You can't compare an elephant and a grizzly. Elephants are herbivorous (eats only plant and leaves). They rarely attack humans unless they are threatened. And they won't kill for food. As long as you stay away from them, they won't come for you.

I've watched them in the wild from short distance and they never chased us.

In this case, it was their natural habitat (forest) that was destroyed and that makes them wander into human area. It is actually not "problem elephants", but it is actually "problem humans" that need to be tackled for these destruction.

And, elephants are one of the species that has strong family bonding. More than even the modern human.

Watch some video to know for real how the Elephants are.

In this video a new mother, tenderly uses her trunk and sole tusk to lift her prematurely born calf out of the blistering sun. And she stays with the dead body for 4 days..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg4aaXgWn2g

And another video where they are grieving the dead.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5RiHTSXK2A

Just search youtube for more elephant videos and you will be able to understand how majestic they are ..

EDIT -
I've started moving my names out of Godaddy. I don't want my money to fund the passions of such a waste creature called Bob Parson.

That's just wrong. There are human/elephant issues in parts of Africa, but there are other ways to deal with it. Posing triumphantly with a dead body of any species is disrespectful.

Maybe he could have bought them some electric fencing instead?

Overall electric fencing was considered the most successful management option, with shooting and the
use of traditional methods to scare elephants away the next best options.

Nah - not much of a photo op, posing next to an electric fence.

(Too bad he gave PETA more ammunition to mouth off about something. PETA doesn't have to look outside their own organization to find "scummy", but that's another matter ...)

He loves bad publicity so I don't think he will care at all. Plus this is creating awareness about the elephant issue.

I'll have to give Bob a call, a pony keeps nibbling my flowers, he could come and shoot it and give the carcass to my neighbours who are on welfare. Everyone will be happy with his good deed. NOT!!!!

He is a moron with too much money to waste.
None of my money will ever go his way. :bah:

It's not often that we would disagree publicly with a competitor, but we at Namecheap are very disturbed by this video of a competitor killing an elephant for sport. Check out the ABC News Report (Warning: Very Graphic!)

We've decided to throw our support behind our Elephant friends by offering domain transfers at a price where we actually lose money.

Show your protest by saying BYEBYEGD again and transfer your domains to Namecheap for $4.99 for the next 24 hours through 11:59pm EST on 3/31/11 (limit 10 per user, valid for all com/net/org domains).

On top of that, we'll donate $1 for each transfer to Save The Elephants at http://www.savetheelephants.org/

Use coupon code BYEBYEGD and let's help the Elephants together!

Regards,
Team Namecheap

In your face Godaddy!

You probably haven't watched the documentary episode of Killer Elephants on Animal Planet.

I still haven't seen any post here defending why park rangers have to shoot and kill problem grizzly or black bears in the US.

You can't bring up shooting a cute chihuahua wearing a pink dress, versus shooting a rabid dog that is trying to mow you down.

Of course, it's probably more "humane" to euthanize "problem" animals like this news:

http://www.abc2news.com/dpp/news/re...d-by-pit-bull,-dog-captured-by-animal-control

But how can you euthanize a berzerk elephant in Africa? And if you take it in the proper perspective, Bob most likely would have been lynched to death by an angry mob if that elephant was a cute and cuddly domesticated pet in that village.

Give me a break! Are you seriously comparing Bob Parsons to a park ranger?

No. Just the act of killing an animal.
