My review on x10 Hosting:

I have used a lot of hosts in my time, more free than paid. But the general rule for me is that if you are providing free hosting, you have to be able to provide free hosting!

x10 Hosting have obviously not yet grasped this concept. I started using x10's free hosting at the beginning of the month. They claim that they're "free and unlimited". If they are talking about the unlimited list of problems and the free hassle I have had, then that statement is absolutely accurate.

Another laugh on their website is their checklist of why you should choose x10.
"Stable, profitable free hosting that you can really rely on!"

My days on x10's Starka server have been nothing but hell. I have seen their "The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable.
Please try again later." page more than I have seen my actual website. If it is not the whole website going down, it's intermittent database issues or general latency. So, looking at their upgrades I decided to go one rank up on their packages, thinking that there would be some benefit.

I was no longer on free hosting.
Was there an improvement? No.

Still database issues, still the whole site not loading. Quite frankly, it's beyond a joke.

Would I recommend x10 Hosting?
HELL NO.

Stay away from x10 Hosting.

I am now moving to a paid host, after x10 have made me wonder whether a free host even exists anymore.

Sorry to hear about your poor experience with x10. Out of curiosity, did you try contacting their support department about these problems?

You're not going to have reliability using a free host. As they say "you get what you pay for".

Hopefully the host you are now paying for is providing you a good level of service.

I think that the information you provided will be very useful for those web masters who are looking for web hosting provider.

read customer hosting reviews before to deal with the company.

I don't know how much we can expect from a free host regarding service and support. Thanks for sharing your experience. Wish you all the very best with your new host.

I have contacted support numerous times, and their replies have been somewhat varied. I have had the usual "upgrade, if you throw money at us it'll be stable" and the "have you tried XYZ" (which is all unrelated).
Their support is pretty shocking too.

I don't entirely agree with you I am afraid. In my mind, if someone is going to offer a free hosting service, it needs to be somewhat reliable. What is the point of offering hosting which is down or not working properly 60-70% of the time? It's absolutely pointless calling it free hosting in the first place - they're not providing you with any if your website can only be accessed if the user is "lucky" and manages to access it at the "correct" times.

I agree, but see comment above.

Agree with the latter.

Yep, problem solved. They are so inexpensive, no real reason to use a free host nowadays.

Whether it's free hosting or not, it makes that company look horrible. The fact that they offer paid packages on top of the free ones actually makes them look even worse. If you are providing good/solid free hosting then people will want to upgrade when the time comes and they need more disk space, bandwidth, addon domains, or anything like that.

Sorry to hear about your experience with them, I hope you can find a good solid host in the future!

Exactly my point!
Why would I want to upgrade and pay this company more money if they can't handle my hosting at the moment?!

With free hosting, the owners really have no incentive of providing a reliable service because if a client is unhappy and leaves, the owner loses nothing because the client paid nothing to begin with. Whereas with paid hosting, we maintain a level of service to keep our clients happy. If a client is unhappy and leaves, we lose money.

So why should free hosting be as reliable as paid hosting?

Downtime is to be expected, yes. But the sorts of downtime I was seeing was in the region of 30-40%... pretty pointless hosting a website at all if there's a 40% chance my website is inaccessible, really...
