.tv Just got off the phone with Enom, regarding older premiums (Pre 2010 land/goldrush)

Well, I finally got the time to call enom.tv to ask about older premium tv's and their premium renewal fee after the last development from verisign.
I spoke with Debora and I asked her clearly about this issue, she replied instantly as clear as it can get that:
premium renewal fees for pre Landrush(2010) and Goldrush domains will have the same premium renewal fee as before...
So let me add; no change, no normal reg fee, nothing...

This wasn't the best answer but at least we got one.

Yeah, I just got an email from Deb stating the same.

Thanks for that info because I was seriously thinking of buying a premium priced name. Now I will just save it for something else...

As I understood, if you buy premium (not reg fee) domain now, you will have to pay normal renewal fee.
The problem is only with premiums registered before March,18

They're talking about old premium .tv's that had an existing premium renewal fee before the Gold & Land Rush. So if you're thinking of buying a fresh premium of the list, the renewal fee will be standard aka $20/yr, subject to change ofcourse.

Apparently, they (Verisign or eNom) want to create more confusion for those considering the extension not less, or keep a revenue stream. Can't say I blame them given that they are a business if the later is the reason..

Its for the domains registered before 18 March.
I ve read some of your posts, it seems its hard for you to understand that from now on all .tv domains are either normal reg fee with normal renewal reg fee per year or one time premium fee with normal renewal reg fees.
Its not so difficult to understand, is it?

edit...

Thx for clearing that up OnSpot.

Thanks for posting Makis.

If this is genuinely the decision they have come to then i forsee many names being dropped in the hope of regaining them or ultimately just taking a hit on them and letting them go.
It has been proven that premium renewals confuse those on the outside looking to dip their toe into .tv and whilst many of us were able to grab nice names because of premiums, ironically the premium names with premium fees have now lost much of their worth because of them imo.

Having said all that, i would also take what Enom or Verisign say with a pinch of salt, imagine what one more years premium renewal fees on all registered name will amount too, worth stalling us all for 12 months for? i should think so.

My own personal view is they want to milk the one remaining cash cow for every last drop before the inevitable removal of ALL premium fees.i could be wrong, but this is my feeling.

If that's the case I don't see why they converted several hundred reg-fee names to premium domains last week.

The domain I was going to buy is a LL which is a few years old. I understand now thanks to the op.

They also converted many good names from premium to non premium, it's impossible to second guess what goes through their heads imo, i am saying that is what i think. but if it was you, wouldn't you want to maximise the amount of money you could get out of the remaining premium names?.

i know i would.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, and punishing premium holders of the past for their loyalty is definitely not a sign of strength.

It is my expectation that they did some work(marketing/promotion) garnering potential endusers to the sedo premium sale. They should have shelled out some bucks and see what advice someone like Jon Spoelstra could have given them, but I am beginning to think that their creative department isn't too deep.

This is the stuff that doubts are made of. :|

But on the other side of the coin, one monkey don't stop no show as I have the utmost confidence of the work that the members of this forum has provided for the extension (and kudos to those leading the charge), so things have a way of balancing themselves out.
Excelsior or bust!

I totally hear what you're saying, but that would only make me believe that their plan or strategy is a little off course. If I was in charge, the last thing I would do is go against the current and convert regfee names to premium domains. That wouldn't make any sense if the goal is to have a extension without premium names.

Time will show :)

i suppose by making reg fee names into ones with a premium one off fee, they have nothing to lose, reg names that are still on the shelf would have been taken if they were any good, by giving a $24 name a $200 initial fee, they can't lose, they know they will get 1000's of new eyes looking at .tv by getting rid of premium fees , eyes that wouldnt have glanced at .tv in past, so by law of averages, if they sell off 100 of those names that have been sitting there for $200 upfront then , thats a nice tidy profit .

Imagine how many names that would never have been sold for reg fee, have been taken in the last week, i bet quite a few have gone for low initial premium prices aswell by people getting caught up in the "buzz". IMO.

And i am not sure the strategy was to get rid of premiums, otherwise they would have got rid of the older premium fees, i suspect it was to just to raise much needed cash imo and this was the best way of doing it, all imo of course, i could be wrong ( and have been on many occasions, lol)

Last time I thought this I had another though as well, that the exit is near.
Apparently I was wrong.

.tv is here to stay. Even the nay'ers have applauded this move by verisign! It'll be really exciting to see what the future holds for all the .tv enthusiasts.

The next simple question:

it's a buyer beware world. How would a buyer know it's a premium?
Also - a transfer is a drop / add so wouldn't that be a new post March 18 registration?

A transfer of a domain is not a drop it is a change of ownership which will not affect the price in any way.
In a nutshell, the price will not change as long as it is registered.

Any TLD that varies the pricing based on the keyword is a ripoff. I feel sorry for those that embraced such a scamming practice.

Sadly, truth hurts but it's still the truth. The current incident where "premium" names are being forced to be renewed at the old prices, whereas if they are dropped they can be caught for a piece of bread is the proof.

Smart business means not making stupid investments.

---------- Post added at 12:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:57 AM ----------

so its ok for domainers to grab up undervalued properties and flip but not for registries to hold out on availability based on there own perceptions (grounded or not) of worth? c'mon bro, dont be the pot that called the kettle black!

Maybe you're not following what's going on here.

1. The .tv registry created an artificial 'premium' domains market, with renewal fees in the thousands of dollars annually

2. The same registry years later decides to release previously tagged 'premium' names at low prices, intending to make a sale.

3. At the same time it undervalued the holders of premium .tv names, forcing them to keep on paying the previous prices.

4. Adding insult to injury, the .tv registry would allow any premium name that dropped to be registered at the new, reduced prices.

Everyone here knows. When I bought my car I was very happy. The next week I found out that someone I know bought the very same car and got a $3k rebate. I was slightly miffed. Now I find out that there's a NEW MODEL and it's improved and costs less than I paid.

They told me I could drop my current car and pick up a new one and I'd only lose one years worth of investment.

It sucks yes. So so lots of things.
