The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
$299 to backorder one ,ehh I think I must pass.

$299.00 is not the only price incurred for one of these beauties.
There is a 2 level application process.

$20.00 per application (per domain, and non-refundable)
or
$200.00 per application (per domain, and non-refundable)
and guess who would get priority on that domain???

Of course the $200.00 application domain orders win.

So a total of $500.00 to possibly get your .co domain,
and if others placed the same order...
well your $200.00 is gone.

I had to go over this a few times w/my Account Rep.

He had started the submission process for 2 domains for me,
and it wouldn't submit on his end without an application fee.
I was very close to pulling the trigger on a couple .co domains w/the $20.00 app fees,
until he told me about the 2nd level (higher priority) $200.00 applications.

So basically I could order my 2 domains and pay the $20.00 application fee on each of them,
then you could come in a month later, order the same domains, and pay the $200.00 application fees,
and you would get those 2 domains because you paid the $200.00 higher priority (non-refundable) application fees.
What a Friggen Joke, lol

what good does the higher priority do ? If there is more than one application, it goes to auction anyway.

What a joke, they are trying to grab as much money as they can during the landrush period lol.

Good point.
He said nothing of an auction.
Just that If someone put a $200 app in on the same name,
then the guy who put the $20 app in, loses.
I would definitely like to hear the answer to that question though.
Maybe if multiple $200 apps are in on the same name??? IDK.

What a joke, they are trying to grab as much money as they can during the landrush period lol.

Yep.
I have never jumped on a landrush bandwagon,
but I really had 2 pretty exceptional domains,
and was ready to put down $640 ($299+$299+$20+$20)
Well when that figure turned to $1000 ($299+$299+$200+$200)
without the confirmation of getting those 2 domains and on top of that possibly losing $400,
I just laughed and said ok, well that made up my mind.

Is it possible to find out which names have been "pre-ordered"??

Really want this 1 name, but of course I'd prefer paying the general public fee..

no, there is no way to see the preorders. As they have a non refundable fee for the preorders, they want to get as many as possible, thus not publishing the list makes more money.

Godaddy is promoting .co ~ Squatters Paradise?

I always find myself typing fast and I leave out the 'm' on .com more than I should.

Squatters Paradise?

Just wondering?

yes

I'm sure they'll find out a way to devise a "cpm" tld as well.

Still, Columbia is entitled to a ccTLD and it isn't like .co doesn't make sense, but yeah, I'd sure love to own redtube.co or pornhub.co or tmz.co, etc, etc, etc.

They should refund the money otherwise I think it's against the law to write this on the order page to confuse the clients:
If we are not able to secure your name, your purchase will be refunded, less the $10.00 application fee included in the price above. Any domains with multiple valid applications will result in an auction."

and

If we are not able to secure your name, you will receive a full refund.

I contacted Godaddy, 3 support representatives, 3 answers:

If someone else secures the name during the sunrise and land rush period, you will be given a refund minus a $10 application fee.
-

Unfortunately, no the pre-registration fee is non refundable. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

During General Availability, anyone can request registration of .co
domain names on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications received
through July 20, 2010, 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time are processed in
the order they are received and submitted to the registry as the
General Availability period begins. Invalid registration applications (determined by the registry) are non-refundable. Our registration fee will be refunded if you are unsuccessful in acquiring the domain name.

The registry imposes a non refundable application fee, which is totally legal. You are not forced to order a domain during landrush, but if you do so, you agree to their terms and conditions, which includes the non refundable application fee. There is an application fee the registrar has to pay to the registry. The registrar is free to charge more than what he has to pay to the registry. So some registrars might ask for $10 some might even ask for $20 or $50. Nothing illegal about it.

In my opinion is illegal to say "full refunds or partial refunds" on the main page and somewhere in the terms to write, pre-registrations are non refundable, the main page as the terms of service ar both part of the official site. Is called "mistification" and don't like this strategy.

I am not a lawyer, but I believe the big registrars have well paid lawyers to make sure that what they have on their website is legally "okay".

Anything outside of columbia,.co maybe good for typo's as the "m" on the keyboard does not get pushed. Otherwise, save your money.

However, .co did throw a great party at domainfest so I give them credit for that.

Thanks, Jim

The idea that countries with .co or .com in front of the extention would jump on this new ccTLD is not working. Take examples such as .co.uk, .com.au, .co.nz, .co.il, .com.tr, .co.za, ... It would be alienating for the locals to not have the .co or .com before their ccTLD. Other extentions where you got a choice (.es or .com.es, .in or .co.in, .jp or .co.jp, ...) already can choose locally to have the .co or not, so I don't see them jump on the Colombian ccTLD neither.

This sounds a lot like .cc, .ws and .nu and such, which all were short-lived hypes. Unless you got a very valuable keyword or a site orientated to Colombian internet users, I'd say: don't even touch this new extention with a long stick!

Toys.co / Computers.co good investments?

Looking for some feedback from the experts, If I were able to obtain Toys.co, Casino(s).co,
Computers.co, Diamonds.co you think I would be able to sell these off quickly?

any others you think would be great even (.co) no matter the extension?

Yeah, no one is going to post their domains here who have pre-ordered. But in the meantime we can discuss something else about .co

Yes....how do guys think .co will do in the market ? ..or will it be like any other TlD

I feel it will do much better then every other cctld. The .com was introduced with company and the real company abbreviation or the short is .co in my opinion.

However, it's too expensive in Land Rush phase so I would suggest everyone not to get in this phase and simply pre-register your desired names if you are seriously interested buying in .co domains.

How much does it cost to pre-order a .co and what's the cheapest registrar?

.co domains are good to domain parking because it is similar to .com domain names indeed.

I can see the cheapest one for now is GoDaddy.com
