I just found this exciting news for all domainers, especially those who invest in green alternative energy names. It can be found on the 10-Q filed today by Solar energy Initiatives, Inc. under Significant Capital Expenditures. http://biz.yahoo.com/e/081224/snry.ob10-q.html

"During the quarter ended October 31, 2008, we acquired approximately $1,662,755 of business assets, and furniture and equipment for office purposes. $1,650,000 of the capital expenditures were for the purchase of the domain name, solarenergy.com, We have used these assets to begin our business operation."

This is by far the highest price I've seen paid yet for any green alternative energy name.

Merry Christmas to all.....

I mean is it possible for unique domains to attract such high prices? I think its time to shift from real estate to web market!!! Just hold on to some nice and become millionaire in a short time. sounds really cool!!

Great sale, I'm sure the eco domain market will grow stronger each day.

Interesting that Ron missed that sale in his weekly recaps. It must have not been reported by the seller.

That would be the third highest known domain sale of 2008 behind Fund.com ($9,999,950) and datarecovery.com ($1,659,000).

It always seems like a huge figure to normal people.
but to the visionaries, it's more than fair.

They're buying this for the long, permanent, haul.
it's a huge, inevitable, growing market.

Nice sale indeed

Based on their number figures, the domain was one of their biggest investment

Love these pink sheet stocks.

As if even the big players are currently making money from solar. NOT

If their business doesn't work out, expect them to have a domain liquidation sale at a fraction of the price :)

Wait for it...I expect some to come out with their Solar,pro..

SolarEnergy.com goes for $1,650,000

It was indeed a great buy and sale. What's surprising to me is that a small start-up company grabbed that name at such a relatively high price. Since they posted the price paid in their 10-Q report (as they are required to do because of being a public traded company), I'm also very surprised they didn't report the buy to Ron with dnJournal. Maybe the seller didn't want it reported.

I think I'll shoot an email to their CFO and suggest they report it to Ron....seems to me it would help promote their start-up efforts.....as well as encourage/inspire all domainers who keep up with the weekly sales. I'm also considering investing in the common stock of this small company simple because of the value of their domain name.....but it might be better to wait until they've paid for it.....they issued a million shares of their stock at .65 per share ($650,000) and financed $850,000 at 7.5% interest over 21 months. They paid the remaining $150,000 in cash.

I would wonder about a brand new company that would spend $12,500 on furniture.
/joke.

Will be interesting to see what they do with the domain. That will tell the tale.

Merry seller

I think the seller hit a home run on this one. Wonder if someone could check one of those old who is record websites and reveal who made the cash.

I think this might of been...a fake sale..
Because that jacksonville company still owns the website..
and they have owned it for years...based on archive.org data...
and domaintools.com says it only has had 1 registrar....
