The Official .ws thread

.WS can stand for WEBSITE.

It has pros and cons as a domain. This thread is for people who wish to suggest ideas to build up and help promote the .ws domain as well as to give and receive help and advice on .ws domains in general. Some useful info contributed through this thread below. Views and comments anyone...

http://website.ws/faq/index.dhtml

The registry is now allowing .WS domain names to be transferred from registrar to registrar. It seems that most registrars just haven't updated their websites to allow this yet.

This is good news for the .ws market as this was a major factor in holding .ws back. Time for .ws to take off? Can we publicize this to help boost the market?

So why buy .ws?
1. Excellent keywords can still be regged.
2. You can buy premium keywords for $20-$50.
3. Excellent development potential, luckily goog doesn’t really care about which extension the site is on but how much content s there and how often it is updated.
4. Godaddy markets .ws - little but its a big brand
5. The β€˜website’ christening seems to have more and more acceptance.
6. Its easy to get traffic and thus revenue for better keywords in .ws than a β€˜bad’ keyword in .com

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I like the extension ok and I own about 10 domains. The only thing that I don't like and that sellers never tell you is that you cannot transfer the domain to another registrar.

B-) another "official" thread :)

Very Much tongue in cheek. Its not an Official Namepros thread but I saw someone else do it and I pm'd them as as to what was required and they said. "Nothing Just do it".

If thats wrong, I'll happily cancel the thread, but I do think it could be a useful thread...

No worries, I'm a .ws fan.

.ws has been around for a long time now and marketed in many different way's. The problem seems to be that the general public has not accepted .ws as an initial search or type-in worth extention.

Sooner or later there will be some decent mainstream sites using .ws that will throw some light on the extention.

As of know I'm collecting as many generic top 1000 keywords as I can get for under $100

I got

I'm thinking of developing it, or ether selling it.

Thoe, I think .ws are great, if they have a good keyword, likes tees.ws is a great one, can be used for a good t-shirt website.

Yup, though I think all three are killer. Specially when you consider what tees.com sold for.

Just renewed -

Tons.ws
Grabs.ws

I just have two for now. It is a decent extension imo. My two names are form.ws and belief.ws. I think form.ws is a great hack and I have one site on it, legal.form.ws, right now. I plan on making belief.ws an informational site about all religions of the world.

angels.ws -high xxx
airfares.ws - low x.xxx

How about application.form.ws as an application form portal where all types of application forms could be accessed?

giraffe.ws is a nice name. However, can I ask what your plans are? Any thoughts on monetizing this name? Or are you planning on a flip if possible?

.ws is a tricky extension. The upside is that it can give you access to keywords that you normally wouldn't have access to. These domains can really help in search engines. The bad is lack of mobility and visibility. It is very hard to move them and not as much info is available on the individual domains.

I do have ambitions to develop one of my domains but i would have no idea on what i would do with it apart from make a site about giraffes (and i am no expert)... so in that case i would probably just flip it! Does the extension have much resale value? Or am i unlikely to get more than the $15 i paid for it?

Thanks for the replies rep added :tu:

Some of the closeouts I see I'm wondering what people were thinking when they regged them.

Giraffe.ws is a nice brandable maybe for kids clothes etc... not really a generic in that sense, unless you want to monopolise the world giraffe trade :)

Hmmm... not a bad idea, illegal giraffe trade :) i'll look into it!

Edit: To fond :yell:

Some .ws domains have fairly good resell value when compared to cost, but the upside is rather limited. I have sold many .ws names and I think the most I sold any for was like a few hundred $. My biggest regret though was selling either bank.ws or banks.ws (can't remember which) for only $100 :(.
