Why is it that everytime I read about the latest auction .mobi does very well in sales however when I go to domain forums like this one there are literally thousands of mobis that attract zero attention. Many are super nice names at low low prices (like a fee of mine listed on here) but no one makes offers on these mobis?

I see tons of mobi domainers that poured huge $$$$$$ into them only to see auctions selling the top names at high $$$$ but it seems that the only ones making the bucks are the crowd of deep pocketed domain hoarders that simply ignore 95% of the mobis in the market.

Plus if they show interest in your mobi for sale they will lowball you till it hurts Its seems that this domain business is great for only a few of the people and over time the trickle rate gets to the lower echelons of this business.

Seems like a very incestuous business with little regard for the little guy. Is the key auctions only? I dont get it.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I've sold a few $x,xxx names privately via the forums / via Whois enquiries & the like.
The general feeling I get though is that if you are selling names you are doing so to liquidate the cash... that motive usually begets low offers from people taking advantage of what they might see as motivated sellers..

It's a tough call, I understand where you're coming from!

Regards

I love NP forums, but I would think that live/silent auctions draw far, far more people (including end users) than NP; I've seen some crappy ones that make it to auction and sell at premium prices;

For the most part, I think 80% of the NP mobi members are people just like you: investors/speculators which means you need to price your names aggressively to sell; just think how much YOU would pay for some of your names if you are intent making some $$;

I still consider myself a newbie after 2 years of dabbling; I managed to make some large $$$$ sales to offset my purchases/renewals but I think those sales were due to luck than anything I did.

As someone said before, I think the key to making a profit is to invest $$$ to obtain some decent, revenue generating names to hold on for little bit to be re-sold at a later date;.

I see lots of people (including me) make mistakes of buying some questionable names with little value and wonder why we can't sell them. In those cases, it would be better to evaluate your parking stats, question brand qualities, swallow your pride then let those losers go and start over.

As Einstein said eloquently ""Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." so....

1. Don't place WHOIS privacy on your names so that end users can contact you directly; I don't recommend using home address/telephone numbers though so go rent a PO box and may be pay $ 4-7 for toll free numbers.

2. Build a close working relationship with your account rep at registrar so that you can submit your names to their auctions more readily.

3. Park and optimize those names for the sake of knowing whether you should keep them or not; also handy to have to show to potential buyers

Just my 2 cents.....

The latest auction results were far lower than expected. I suspect you are comparing the very best with the also ran names. If the top end is 100k, the the middle and bottom end isn't going to be high.

It's just like with any other extension; good ones will sell, bad ones will not.

^ Indeed, no doubt. dotMobi is no different in that respect.

That's clearly true in the case of some of the Sedo auctions, particularly the last one (warts and all).

I'm not sure it would be true of the last TRAFFIC auction though. IMHO, most of the .mobi domains there would have sold for more at a .mobi forum.

VisionEdger - you always sound bitter and confused, like you have an axe to grind. :alien:

ive personally done fine with mobee sales on the forums... if everyone wins this business would not be as competitive as it is.

Your first statement explains it all... "There are literally thousands of mobis that attract zero attention".

The market is flooded right now with names because renewals are upon us. Compare this to todays housing market where properties are a dime a dozen. Clearly the buyer has the upper hand and has time to pick and choose what's in their best interest. It will not last forever though and names selling for $xx today will rise in value as inventory is snapped up over time.

Patience is key at this stage in the game :imho:

I see so many crappy mobi names on this forum. People think any dictionary word should be worth thousands. Well that isn't the case.

you cry about not being able to sell your names... wake up and smell the coffee, your domains probably suck.

try harder. cry less.

I see no real offers on this board as well.
And my names are pretty good ones.
I'm not talking about low ball offers, i'm talking about NO offers
on pretty good names.

I see names bought and sold constantly. As a matter of
fact, I just sold one yesterday. Keep in mind that many
deals happen via PM so you would never know of the sale!
