I got tired of the free hosts vanishing after a month or so, so now I finally decided to get a paid hosting, I heard a lot about hostgator and about dreamhost, but I want to know, which one is better? performance wise and price wise?
I'll also appreciate if you could post any pros and cons for each for them.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
namebug the only way anyone gets continued billing with us if they don't cancel. If I'm wrong provide the ticket number that you would have gotten back instantly after filling out hostgator.com/cancel.php (this is the only way we do cancellations) If we somehow made a mistake and you have the ticket number I'll give you 4x the cash back since the day you cancelled it.

King Justice what are you basing this off of? If our boxes were easy to hack we wouldn't be in business. If your site was hacked it would have been because of an insecure script you were running or bad password. There is a big difference between an account being hacked and a server being hacked. If you pasted your namepro login information all over the internet and someone logged into it that doesn't mean namepro was hacked it means you were from giving out your info. If you have an out of date script that has a vulnerability it is the same thing as giving your login info to the world. What was your ticket number with us on this problem? Thanks!

I have used dreamhost before, they were very good, good uptime fast and easy to use.

If you were thinking of paid hosting there are lots of other companies out there, so shop around, the best isn't always the big names, there are some hidden gems out there that provide more for less, and sometimes with less users more support.

I currently used HostGator for my sites and always readily recommend it to my friends. I haven't used Dreamhost before so it's not really my place to say which one is better, but I knew someone who did and there was alot of downtime for him. I've been with Hostgator almost a year now and I've only had one unscheduled outage and that was fixed within 5-10 minutes from what I remember.

Hope this helps

I wouldn't use either when I could use servage.net. They have been ultra reliable for me and it's cheaper than HG or DH.

I used to use DreamHost. I found it absolutely trouble free. I have never used HostGator but I have heard people say its just as good.

I used Hostgator for a year, in which time my site was hacked three times. In the end they kicked me off their servers because I guess I was a threat to the server, so they did that instead of securing their server (It wasn't because of an insecure script, all I had running was the latest and most secure vBulletin). So I'd try DreamHost, BlueHost is a good one too. I've also heard great things about HostMonster. :)

Dreamhost seems better. I have some negative words of Hostgator: some of their affiliates have not been paid in 3 months.

Dreamhost:
Excellent price for 1st year (they let customers make their own coupon codes, so find someone who will give you a $97 dollar off code, which is the max). Steep price to renew, but you'll like them so much, and have so many domains set up (unlimited) you won't want to bother switching.

I get a response within minutes usually from customer service. One one occasion, it took about an hour to fix a problem.

Custom RSS feed with news about problems that may affect your site

Their own control panel (not cpanel, which I find kind of confusing sometimes).

One-click installs of major free scripts, like wordpress, joomla. One click update install on all of those as well.

WebFTP (new version, very sleek) lets you fix problems when away from home.

Newsletters are never dull. They throw professionalism out the door, make jokes left and right, and are sometimes unintelligible. But you don't care when you are reading it, because you actually read the newsletter, so you get the news. How many newsletters do you find yourself reading beginning to end?

Easy domain management. This is where I think cpanel is confusing, but I didn't toy around with it long before switching to dreamhost, so it may really not be that confusing.

Hi could you direct me to some of these reviews? I'm currently with HostGator but I would like be informed if their service is starting to fail, so I can switch before my next renewal.

Thanks!
