Golden Globe is a term used to describe the planet Earth and it has been a common expression since the early days of Western exploration, where to "explore the golden globe" was a popular call to adventure and discovery.

A Golden Globe is also a plant species of shrub from the primrose family and is usually found in China. In addition, Golden Globe is the common name of many other plants, including several flowers.

The term can also generically denote a ball or orb made from gold, such as ceremonial items used by royalty worldwide, many of which are even named a 'Golden Globe'. Some decorative world globes in previous eras were made entirely of gold and denoted someone of a high social status and/or economic class.
