I have 16 domains, mostly combinations of two or three common words with a .com extension, that are expiring on 4/7/23 and 4/8/23 and that I won't be developing and won't renew. I've spent several hours studying the options to sell them quickly at the lowest price that's worth the trouble, which I've decided is $20 each. Here's what I've gleaned from this site and my own explorations:

NamePros is the best resource for information about the domain business, but it's clear from what I've read and observed in the auctions forum that posting them there is unlikely to be fruitful.

NameLiquidate seems to be plagued by payment problems that make it not worth the risk and trouble.

Sav.com requires auctions to start at $1, and very few of them seem to get any further than that.

Godaddy auctions require at least 90 days before expiration.

On eBay, of the 638 domain auctions as of yesterday, only 23 have any bids at all, and most are under $10.

Afternic would allow me to lower my BIN price to $20, but their minimum fee is $15, and a buyer there doesn't seem to have any way to sort by price, so someone looking to browse bargains would have no way to find them.

NameSilo, where my domains are registered, has a marketplace that lets buyers sort within a price range and by .com extension, but it doesn't seem to get much mention in what I've read, so I wonder whether it has good buyer traffic.

Sedo does let buyers sort by price, low to high, and by .com extension, and they take a 15% commission with no minimum, so in the hope that a bargain-hunter might find one or more of my domains there, I changed the status of the 16 at Afternic to Hidden, and I changed their status at Sedo to BIN for $20.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Thats not true .
Have you tried to list it at godaddy auction and rejected because expiration is less than 90 days !??

Maybe rejected becuase you didnt add the godaddy TXT record since your domains registered at namesilo , but not for the expiration reason .

The GoDaddy help page entitled, "

What is GoDaddy Auctions®?," to which I'm not allowed to link here, says,

"You can't list domains expiring within the next 90 days. . . ."

Today i successfully listed a domain that will expire tomorrow 28 march 2023 .
Maybe what you read is old and not updated .

GoDaddy also says the following. It's surprising they would leave outdated information that discourages customers on a page that must see thousands of visits every day: "

Why is my domain listing Pending Review?

To maintain the quality and integrity of the marketplace for our members, all GoDaddy Auctions® listings are reviewed for:
  • Trademark infringement
  • Confirmation of domain ownership
  • Registration expiration
We'll send you an email notifying you if your listing was approved or denied when the review is complete."

Their minimum commission is $15, but they have a lot of domains selling for less than that, presumably ones they own. The Closeouts section has more than 500 domains with a BIN of $5. The first page of 500 took long enough to load that I didn't see how many more sets of 500 were priced at $5.

Even if you found a suitable place to list, Its a simple fact in this business that most average domains are not liquid.

You should choose more names you intend to hold and less lets give it a year ones.

Try to check namecheap auction but only if the name is registered there. I just liquidate 3 names there in about 1 day for 5$ each minus their commission 10%

Thank you. I've actually had these names for a few years. They're all .coms I was thinking of developing: wordbetter for editing, smartpractical for how-to, simplenix about Linux, etc., but I can see now that the ones I'm keeping will be more than enough to keep me busy.

Domain Investing is a very unique and incredible business. The drawback is liquidity. IMO if you are in a rush to raise capital then your domains should be the last of your assets to go (assuming they are good domains).

If they aren't good domains then I agree it's better to go ahead and stop renewing and take the loss. What are the 16 domains?

Thank you. These are the 16. I've always thought the easy spelling and topics with broad interest were appealing, and I thought, until recently, that I might develop them,

simplenix.com
easyfuncourse.com
wordbetter.com
technicedit.com
easysimplecomputer.com
easyfuncomputer.com
producechooser.com
pennywisehome.com
xcountryskier.com
ultrasmarthouse.com
tvbrilliant.com
trainedit.com
smartpractical.com
shopwithskill.com
datingeinstein.com
bicyclegenius.com

Thanks. I can see why you may let some expire. But without looking over data on each one I would personally hold on to these and wait for a high buyer.

wordbetter.com, tvbrilliant.com, ultrasmarthouse.com, trainedit.com

Good luck!

There is another avenue that has just opened up. A few days ago DNWE.com became no fees platform. Like in old days. And if a domain sells, it's only 12%.
Not sure about the traffic in there though.

I hope you're correct, but their home page still says, "
  • Sell as many domains as you want for one small monthly fee or annual subscription fee."

Few days ago I got an email from them that from the very beginning of April there are "no fee to list platform", and that it reverts to the way it used to be.
Maybe it's a matter of a day or two but as far as I know it's happening.

I have used NameLiquidate in the past to get rid of names I had at Epik. Some I sold for $9 and others for $50-100. I think the STR was less than 10% though.

namecheap does not have an auction platform!!
you can't submit the domains, if you can show me how.....thanks
You are right, NC doesn't have an auction.
Both @lovely4ever and @SELMimo admitted that they were talking about NC Marketplace.

As popular domain auctions sites they list Sedo, Flippa, NameJet, Snapnames and Ebay.

The namecheap auction is only for the expiring names as I recall
I can't find this info anywhere mentioned on their website
