Regarding this thread https://www.namepros.com/threads/jr-app-start-5-2l.1297417/#post-8876293

The mods waited over a week to chime in on what was a clear auction by the seller. I’m not a bidder but this place is run by people with zero brain power.
He should have started the auction at $500 as their seem to be confusion and someone must have reported him and now it appears he has to let it go for $25. But we all live and learn. The mods are good here but being human once in a while we can miss something. At least that is my thoughts.

He started the auction over a week ago. if the mods were doing their job, the auction wouldn’t have gotten this far.

It is not their job to overlord all posts and activity

Hence "moderators" not "dictators"

If we had to wait for mods to review every listing prior to publication we would not have posts appearing for weeks. That's why rules are published. Hopefully, we are professional and able to follow rules.

If you look at all the big players, they despise https://www.namepros.com/

I get it now.
Most big players don't typically post on forums. This one, or the other dead one. I don't remember them posting over there even at it's height. And some big players have been busted for various things, auction shenanigans, services/products that were sketchy etc. Some more active ones have their own sites/blogs/social media accounts where they put up their content. More control, less moderation.

That’s their job. It’s interesting how they come out of the woodwork at the last second. They suck!

Look at the initial auction. The mods are wrong here. I have no gain here other than pointing out the obvious.

Are you saying the buyer and seller are not bound to the deal? Is that a policy (I doubt it & see mods says they are bound). Who reported him anyways?

I agree with that part. I don't think they go thru each auction but rather check them out if somebody flags it. If you or somebody else flagged (reported) it and they didn't take care of it, they should have. They don't have as many mods as they did back in the day. It's more community patrolled today.

Yes the seller is on the hook to sell at their reserve. In this case it’s $500.

It’s interesting how the mods here interpret things. Last year a seller listed a domain for $10k and I posted sold. The mods played dead. Moral of the story - they make the rules as they go.

Since it was in violation of the rules from the outset (albeit pointed out well after-the-fact), seems like the auction should be null/void from that point. But hey, that's my opinion.

That would be an interesting way to go. The only flaw with that is that each time someone puts a reserve and it's not met the auction is void. That would basically be allowing reserves. However, maybe if it is there first time violating the rule they could do different. However, all sales are binding.

It's funny, because I don't remember the reserve at all. I don't know if it was added later or I just mentally skipped that line because I wouldn't expect to see a reserve on namepros.

I agree. I don't either. I scout these threads continuously and saw this thread when it was first listed. I do not remember a reserve amount being posted. If there was one I usually report stuff like this to the mods. Understand I could be wrong. But I do not remember seeing this reserve.

@Alfa Mod Team
I assume this is already being done- to check the listing and find out when the reserve amount was added. If it was listed in the thread after the first bid or later, then the seller is wrong and violated the rules of the forum.

Hello,

We can see that @Alfa Mod Team posted in the sales listing today at 6:10pm CT with a rule reminder, however, the very first report we can find regarding the matter was today at 1:54pm CT. So their response time was roughly 4 hours from the time of the report, not over a week.

Keep in mind, with hundreds of posts daily and multiple higher priority tasks moderators deal with on a daily bases, moderators mostly rely on members to report rule violations when they see them so we can be made aware of them, investigate and get more involved.

If a report doesn't happen, chances are, a moderator hasn't seen the violation.

After reviewing the auction for a second opinion, to be sure, we can see that @Alfa Mod Team posted the correct winner.

The seller attempted to add a Reserve price after a binding bid was placed, in addition to reserve prices not being allowed.

The end time was 120 hours after the last bid. The last bid was by member @mdent

Reserve prices have never been allowed on NamePros and the rules are clear regarding trying to change the guidelines after a bid has been placed.

The auction was not voided because the reserve price was not present prior to the first bid. The seller added it later, after bids were placed. The seller is bound to honor their original auction agreement at the time of the first bid being placed.

Rule references:
6.2.2. Reserve prices for auctions are not permitted; auction holders (sellers) must set a starting bid that they are prepared to accept.

6.2.3. An auction cannot be modified once a bid is placed with the exceptions of its Buy-It-Now ("BIN") price (e.g., a BIN price may be added), its bid increments, approving additional bidders, adding payment methods, and/or adding additional domains at no extra cost. Once a bid is placed, every allowable change (the exceptions just mentioned) must be posted to the thread as a new reply as well as updated in the original post before it becomes effective and valid (e.g., a BIN price cannot be accepted until that is done, but rule 6.2.10 applies). BIN prices are not reserve prices and therefore do not affect rule 6.2.10.

It seems that members didn't know all the details before creating this thread and commenting.

We hope that helps clarify a bit more.

In the future, please use the report link on a post that violates the rules as soon as you see it so a moderator team can investigate and get more involved.

My assumption was that the reserve was placed at the very start of the auction, which seems to be in direct violation of the "no reserve" rules. As it turns out, it wasn't...so, like you said--you live and you learn.

I read the title of this thread. Please know, moderators, that I don't think you folks suck!

The moderators are doing the best they can with a large volume of postings.

And, as they suggest, make the report to them if there is any question about a posting. They have been very helpful in the past with fast responses to an issues that aris.

Just a quick update for you guys. Looks like the seller doesn't want to go through this, they're not responding to messages. Probably going to end up with a bad business infraction on their namepros account. Unfortunate situation

Update: Unfortunately, the seller failed to honor the binding sales agreement and was issued an unacceptable business infraction.

@mdent - Sorry it didn't work out.
