Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Incremental attribution.

If all names are listed with Afternic and its partners, and the only difference is the landers, then the delta in sales should be attributed to the efficiency of the lander.
ok, let's see I started a split test yesterday, should have result within a few days...
maybe it will not be so easy to know the result as I use LTO on dan...

My Dan was set up to BIN or LTO 12 months. My hypothesis was that with LTO enabled Dan should beat Afternic landers. But did not happen.

At the end of the day, the most important KPI for all of us the the total sales in $ (of course, factoring in replacement costs, time spent acquiring etc.). This experiment is basically essential for determining how to maximize the bottom line. If one of your baskets is handily beating the others, provided that the baskets got allocated completely randomly, then you ought to apply that basket settings to your overall portfolio. It is that simple.

Please note that I experimented in May 2022, prior to GD takeover and GD logo appearing on landers and some minor changes to both Dan and GD landers. My working assumption for now is that it hasn't affected the outcome enough to spend time experimenting again. Plus, I do still use Dan landers for a short period when I just get new names to test traffic, but haven't noticed anything spectacular conversion-wise to retry them for overall portfolio.

The only new tests I am planning in near future are:

1. Price elasticity at various pricing points
2. If the last two digits of the price make any difference (i.e. 95, 88, 50, 00 etc.)
3. BIN vs PUR for below $2k.

What is PUR ?

My dan's portfolio is in EUR with 60 months max LTO.

I see that you use your website for landers, dont you be afraid of having 25% fees for afternic sales ?

PUR = Price Upon Request, i.e. NS3 of Afternic.

Dan: since most of my domains are priced at $2500 and lots of LTOs don't complete, I decided that I don't want to do more than 12 months.

Website: it is work in progress. For now I have only few hundred names pointing there. Once the conversion work is complete and converts better than AN, the 25% won't matter, because my cost at Rightbrand will be only 2-3%. Regardless, I have full control there and can choose and pick how to implement it to achieve the lowest combined commission.

PUR is a waste of time for me...

depends of your % of sales landers/an... Even with 0% fees if you sell much more on afternic than landers, you'll lose money not using their ns

Well, I guess there is no formula that works for all.

Regarding the fees. My target is to achieve 1%+ through my landers at Rightbrand, plus 0.5% or so from AN/Sedo etc.

If I get to that conversion even at 1%, then here is how the weighting will work:

for each 100 names sold at 25% commission, I will have 200 names sold at 3% commission.

My weighed commission, then, will be around 10%.

Btw, even if my own landers give me just 0.5% on par with AN network without landers, my weighed commission will be 14%, better than AN's 15% with landers. In short, I need to do 0.5% or better on my landers before switching everything.

I hope Afternic can provide a feature where we can just click and download a pdf receipt for our domain sales (like Dan), for tax filing purpose.

Based on my experience, Dan provides a good user experience without any complaints. However, I noticed that Afternic's user interface looks outdated, resembling a website from the 90s. Rather than focusing solely on selling commission policies, can you consider revamping Afternic's interface design, particularly for the beta version? The current layout is buggy and terrible from my point of view.

Since they haven't bothered to fix any critical issues for years, it seems they're busy spending those millions of dollars that they easily earned.

Please put the the "Pending Sale" back and remove the hideous, nerve racking, anxiety provoking "On Hold" tab

"On Hold" gives me flash backs to early summer when I had 2 "On hold" in GoDaddy listings dashboard before I called my Rep to see what the deal was and what it meant. They were Priced 125k and 280K too. They sat there unlisted for week’s until I called to have it manually removed, as they never sold …& your system never put them back on market until after I called.

Also I noticed Today, price changes in Afternic are taking Forever to show / apply to GoDaddy. Also …BETA dashboard is BUGGY, not only do the price change not show, but when I search for the names I changed …they don’t Even Show in Beta Dashboard! I have to switch to Afternic classic to see that that are still listed in my portfolio.

As buggy as the the system is and has been, I can’t seen how adding the Dan interoperability into the mix is gonna make things run smoother…I list on Dan and Afternic separately, because activating the Dan Distribution Network Inside Dan on Names that are already listed and approved on Afternic will only cause me buggy situations with listing and emails .

“On Hold” Sounds So NEGATIVE as one Twitter user put it …please change it back.

Afternic does not allow raw adult domains. As per membership agreement:

Additional examples of Prohibited Domain Names that may prompt Afternic to cancel enrollment include:
vulgar or obscene language, such as f-ckyu.com;
any language that is sexually explicit...

Dan does allow raw adult domains, since, as per T&C, the closest "prohibited" domains are only the following:

You will not use this Site or the Services in a manner (as determined by Contractor in its sole and absolute discretion) that:
Is illegal, or promotes or encourages illegal activity;
Promotes, encourages or engages in the exploitation of children, or any activity related to the proliferation of child sexual abuse material (CSAM);

At the same time, DAN listings may be distributed to Afternic, so Afternic may in fact receive raw adult domains via Dan. It is illogical. So, GoDaddy should decide are raw adult domains OK for the network, and synchronise Afternic/DAN terms accordingly. Moreover, it would make sense to use exactly the same wording in general prohibited domains description @ Afternic and DAN T&C.

Something everyone should go check Right Now!...This I can say finally Afternic has stepped up its game a bit!

Go log into Afternic BETA Dashbord, new Tab on left OFFERS and LEAD CENTER click leads, click "in progress" see active leads with brokers, brokers name, time date, click Domain Name and see engagement activity with the lead and status, with ability to message broker yourself! Also click the closed Tab to see others that did not complete or "stalled" Well done Afternic/ @GoDaddy Thank You! These insights are wonderful and helpful!

We are pleased to announce a major update to Afternic 2.0’s beta platform: Lead Center Beta.

In Afternic’s new lead center beta, sellers have a dedicated section to see all of the inbound inquiries and offers that Afternic brokers are working on.

Sellers will also be able to interact with brokers, discover the status of each inquiry, and see what action your broker has taken to date.

To access the lead center, visit the Afternic 2.0 Beta dashboard. We’ve prepared an in-depth blog post discussing the features of the lead center here, but here are 5 key features of the lead center:

Lead center dashboard
The lead center dashboard provides an overview of all of your inbound, brokered leads. Quick links allow you to navigate between leads in different stages, from those that require your attention through to leads that have been transformed into sales.

Broker Activity Panel
Afternic’s broker activity panel provides you with the latest updates on individual domain names from your lead’s broker. From qualifying the lead to sharing the latest offers, the broker activity panel offers transparency and quick communication between the seller and the broker.

Messaging
Messaging your broker couldn’t be easier in the broker activity panel. Quickly communicate with your broker by clicking the “message broker” button. All communication between you and your broker is displayed in the activity panel.

Adjusting your pricing within the lead center
If a domain name receives an inquiry and it doesn’t have a list price or a floor price, the broker will ask the seller to update their pricing so that the broker has parameters to work within. This can be done via the activity panel. Updating the list or floor price here will also update your Afternic listing price.

Quickly accepting or countering offers
Accepting or countering an offer can be done at the touch of a button within the broker activity panel. Along with either accepting or countering an offer, the seller has the option to send a message to the broker.

For a rundown of the lead center, here's a blog post written by @James Iles: https://www.godaddy.com/garage/afternic-launches-the-lead-center/

Lead details, above other things, do show "GD appraisal" value. Even though I'm not a big fan of these appraisals, or any other automated appraisals, it is known that GD makes this value available to potential buyers if searched on GD homepage. As such, as a seller I'd prefer to know what $$$ appraisal value is shown to my buyers. So, why not to add the column showing this value for all portfolio domains?

This Lead Center is so exciting...except I can't see the details. I must be experiencing a bug.

I see 2 entries under "In Progress" and 18 under "Closed". But all I see is a heart icon - not even the domain name. Quite strange!

I have to say though I haven't been this excited about a new feature in a long time. Great catch @DomainBarracksRob !

Thank you my friend. I did, but it's not changing anything.

I'm on mobile, have tried Brave and Chrome. I'll try it on desktop in a bit, but for now I guess it's something weird about my phone. If anyone else has a similar issue I'd really love to hear about it though.

If anyone has ever used Uni Market they must be familiar with this Lead Center Beta feature. I like it adopted to Afternic, now seller can talk to broker while leads is on progress.
If I may suggest @GoDaddy Afternic should put BIN and Make Offer on NS3/NS4 and NS5/NS6 landing page .

Is there any "opt-out" for the brokerage activities--especially, if the the domain has a BIN, with the floor an minimum price at that same price.

Instead of the default being an automatic "opt-in," why not provide the brokerage as an additional feature that can be selected IF desired?

Domains related to lead center beta are not visible/responsive via mobile. At least for me, via desktop everything is ok I can enter the leads/domains and see the comments from brokers.

This bug is a part of a bigger problem in the Afternic excel uploading system
Earlier today it worked. No issues. I submit pure BIN with no negotiation (all 4 pricing fields are the same) and with fast transfer usually, csv file lines are like this (somedomain .com BIN $5,777) :

somedomain.com,5777,5777,5777,5777,Business,General,,"",,3,1,DEFAULT

Maybe it has something to do with either inreview OR just the spreadsheet structure. Do you see a working domain with your desired config (maybe different floor or whatever pricing) in downloaded spreadsheet? Without excel, just notepad and .csv file as text - the workable line structure would be better readable then.
