Questions regarding domains selling aftermarkets...

Hi to community,
I want to ask some basic questions which are:
* when we as a domain owner listed our domain for sale on market like 'afternic' and listed same domain on another market like 'sedo' for parking then it is right or not and what end user will see in the browser while visiting this domain.
* When we listed our domain on all big aftermarkets for sale by using their for sale name servers then what for sale message end user will see in his or her browser because we are using different markets 'name servers'.
Note: I am new in this industry so i want to understand some very basic things because these questions always confuse me.
THanks fpr reading and please reply in short words and do not angry with me if you find these questions stupid.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Hi

you can list on both, but wherever you set nameservers to for each domain, is where visitors will go.

imo...

Indeed, You can change nameservers as much as you want. But the domain will only resolve to the last one you set. Listing a domain for sale does not change anything.

The message usually seen is
"The domain (your domain ) is for sale - Price (whatever you set)
Click Buy to proceed"

The website will automatically pick-up the set nameservers relationship with your account (domains) and display accordingly. Providing you've set-up your account/s and nameservers correctly

You can use any nameserver but some marketplaces require you to use theirs.

Before I answer your questions, I suggest you keep exploring this site and perhaps read a complete book on domaining. There is a lot to learn if you want to master domaining, so have patience and keep on learning.

I'm rephrasing your questions a bit, so that other people coming here in future can also be benefited from it.

1. What happens when we list our domain names on a marketplace like Afternic or SEDO?

Marketplaces like SEDO and Afternic have multiple ways to expose our domain names to potential buyers when we list them there.

  1. They put those names in their database, so that when someone searches for similar names or keywords, our names show up in the result. This gives our names exposure to potential buyers.

  2. The market places have syndication networks that are connected to various registrars like Dynadot, Namecheap etc. So when a marketplace pushes our domain names to their syndication network, our names show up in the search results of those connected registrars as well.

2. What happens when we list our domain names on multiple marketplaces like Afternic and SEDO at the same time? Is this wrong?

Technically there's nothing wrong in listing our domain names on multiple open marketplaces like Afternic and SEDO at the same time, as these marketplaces have no condition against listing the same names on other marketplaces (there are marketplaces with exclusivity conditions, but Afternic and SEDO are not exclusive marketplaces).

This approach has the potential to expose your domain names to more buyers. However, when you list your domain names on multiple marketplaces at the same time, some people suggest you should put Buy Now (BIN) price on one marketplace only, and set the make offer option on other marketplaces.

Otherwise, in rare cases, buyers may try to buy the same domain name from multiple marketplaces at the same time, and that may cause some inconveniences for you as the seller.

3. What happens when we set the name servers of our domain names to the name servers provided by a marketplace like Afternic or SEDO?

Listing our domain names on a marketplace and setting the name servers of our domain names to the name servers provided by a marketplace is not the same thing.

Listing a domain name to a marketplace only adds the name to the database of the marketplace, but it cannot automatically set the landing page of the domain to a landing page provided by the marketplace. We need to set the name servers for that.

Once we set the name servers properly, only then the marketplace will be able to show their landing page on our domain name.

Which means, when you or someone else on the internet visits the said domain name, they'll see the landing page provided by the corresponding marketplace.

Usually, everyone on the internet sees the same landing page when you set the name servers to those provided by a marketplace. However, this may vary based on how the marketplaces implement the landing page.

Technically, once you set the name servers, you give the marketplace the ability to show whatever they want when someone visits your domain name on a browser. However, as I said before, they usually show almost the same thing to everyone.

Say you have a domain name example.com, and you've set Afternic name servers on it. To know what people will see when they visit example.com, just visit example.com on a browser a few hours after you've set the name severs.

Hope this was helpful to you.

Happy domaining 🌹

Regards,
Fayaz.

Thanks Fayaz for taking time for giving me detail answer.
One personal question from you:
Are you Pakistani ? and how much you earn from this industry ? As your name suggest.
Yes i read eBook on domaining and also try my best read as much content as from this forum and also scan number of domains on daily basis try to find their value and if a chance to register them.
One thing i must say there is highest competition in this industry as investors want to catch each and every good .com domain and leave nothing on the table.

Yes, it is a highly competitive field. Initially it may look easy money, but it most certainly is not.

Anyways, best wishes to you 🌹

This is unrelated to this thread, and also bit a more personal than I'd like to answer in a public forum.
So I'd not go into details.

In short, I'm mainly a web developer. Domaining is side project, not the main job.
I have 150+ names and I did make some sales over the years, but not a lot.
My main profile is .com, and I'm only experimenting with .xyz

Please, no more personal questions. Thanks.

Fayaz.

I'll be honest with you. Domaining is not best suited for regular income. Domaining is more like a long game.

Having said that, it's possible to earn regular income from developing geo and product related domains, with small monthly sells and affiliate marketing. But that's a completely different route. That's more development than domaining. And you'll have to do a lot of outbound marketing for that.

Relax brother. There are almost 8 Billion people on this planet. Around 4 Billions on the internet. Keep trying with knowledge and prudence, don't hasten, there's always enough people who wants to buy what you are able to sell. You'll just have to find the right product for the right people at the right time.

All the best wishes to you 🌹

Thanks Fayaz brother for positive reply from you.
I sometime discourage because i am lonely and not much support from my family but still i have some belief back in my mind that some day i will prove them wrong while running business from internet.
That is my life biggest desire.

Domaining requires time/money/experience.
I would suggest web developing to start.
Buy one or more domains that you think is valid, build up a website or a blog, promote it and buyers will come

There are several posts on this site that talk about making a full time income from domains. The blunt truth is that we would all love to do it, but for the average person it is not possible. You need a lot of money upfront and a lot of skill to pick the ‘right’ domains (and no one really knows what they are!). Keep reading posts on this site before asking more questions as the answers are already here.

See:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/can-i-make-a-full-time-living-from-selling-domains.1281944/

https://www.namepros.com/blog/what-are-the-odds-applied-probability-for-domain-investing.1280124

And the easiest way to think of name servers (ns) is that we are basically pointing the domain at a website. We are telling the domain where to go to (resolve) and it can only go to one website.
