so i got today offer on timetraveler,io direct from CEO of a software company
..3k first offer... I countered around 20k... then he said he can have timetravel,io at 5k bin..which is true..its a dan lander bin... how would u guys handle such negotiating given it's a ceo and the other 5k name... do u believe if someone can buy timetravel at 5k but makes 3k offer on timetraveler then in your view which of the 2 is their preferred name?? any comments? ty

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
How badly do you need the money? Don't know what his intentions are with the name, but I'd much rather have TimeTravel as opposed to TimeTraveler.. Personally, I'd take the $3k and move on.

It depends on how much you need the money.

If you're starving then take the $3K and run.

If you're doing okay, then say you understand his reluctance to spend $20K and ask for $7.5-$10K.

Take $3k this is .io not .com.

3K is a good offer for this domain. Timetravel in org sold for $350 not too long ago... Caught so investment pricing... still.

The superior domain though. Again, not a bad offer and a good ROI for a < 2 year hold.

yea.. and timetravellers....com double L... went under 1k... and mega ultra recently.... well double L is ugly...but still should be a mid 4fig name imo

I did have few xxx offers on this over years... as I said io is hot stuff... and basically low quality 1word io fetch bid wars into 5fig on sav or parkio auctions..... on my 800 name folio the 80 io I have left get most action. its really just shame for resellers.llike us that its 40 a pop to keep this stuff around. if it was 10 or 20 I'd probably own 700 io and 100 others...and not the other way around ...still I'm proud of having spent time and effort to get regfee good 1word io all off expirednamesnet everyday... some 5 to 3 year ago... then it all stopped.and went to bid wars on expired auctions... I guess domainers realized sales potentials at that time

Interesting topic and discussion. It depends on application, but for most uses I can think of, I prefer traveler, so I think you are in a good position. I also agree with sentiment expressed above of keeping the negotiation moving and be concise in responses. I hope it works out to an agreement both buyer and seller feel positive about.

If he wanted TimeTravel.io for $5k he would have bought it. Clearly he wants your TimeTraveler.

what if he is timetraveler and goes back in time and somehow checkmates me instead... anything is possible.
Well, then it would seem like any move you make would be irrelevant. So I wouldn't stress about it.

try asking 7500$...
dropping down from asking 20k to accept 3k sound too bogus.

Tell him the cheapest you can take is $3500 (plus he pays nominal escrow.com fees} Not too expensive, Because if you accept the 3k hes gonna know you would have gone lower and not buy it anyway ,admit it its not the best name ,No one else is gonna come for it this decade. I think he offered you a fair price ,if he would have low balled you with a sob story and budget of only 1k ,im sure you would have countered a 2k ,that low bid would have reframed the whole deal ,if hes honest and a real ceo ,hes not hiding anything so he probably would
pay up to 3500 and fees , I also would rather have the other domain for 5k than yours for 3k ,so dont push too hard here . GOOD LUCK,if you sell the domain ,dont buy any new ones ,and only keep your best.

Exactly, the counter should include a) an admission that you recognize his reticence to spend $20K and b) an conciliatory offer between $7500-$10,000.

And this "TimeTravel" is better than "TimeTraveler" debate is totally irrelevant if the CEO's preferred brand is Time Traveler, which is a pretty fair assumption to make given the evidence - it's just a common negotiating tactic. We've all seen whacky domains sell for massive $$$ simply because the buyer really wanted that name.

And as a domain investor, you cannot be afraid or you will never make the big sale.

Exactly, Lets suppose for a moment this is for an interactive game different levels of spacecraft , enhanced graphics levels. or even an educational game. You are the time traveler. The agreed better general use term is time travel. But, in this instance it isn't going to cut it. I'm a little bit lost why peps can't see the obvious and keep focusing on generalizations and not the immersive difference.

Sure its an IO extension but that seems to be no barrier for tech use. and the .com's I wouldn't even like to think of the price if they were available.

The only thing is the English variant with a double II, traveller That's also up for sale. Check out the spacetraveller .com Translator required, But looks good. Spacetraveler.com is also on the Launch pad as a major player.

Somebody might want to look at SpaceTraveler.com webside . Launching in 2024. now is that our buyer. Now lets talk about price. The more you dig the more there is to find.

Of course as any domainer knows the above is all part of the basic checks when negotiating a domain sale. I'm sure our OP has had a busy weekend drilling down. Before it's asked why would somebody want the .IO when the hold the .com Well because some-times some like to consolidate where they can. It's all part of the speculative game we are in.

Or even somebody in the Outfield looking to ride on this major game ? launch. Stick within its descriptive use and it will be a darn struggle to ever take it off you.

Edit (but too late for one above) It's timetraveller.com for the major launch banner. But, do check both for a bit of an insight

If you are fine with the price and want to make a sale just sell it

else
seller $20k
buyer - I have an option to buy another domain at $5k

you have two option

negotiate price in range of 5k ~ 14k or

ask buyer any better price above timetravel/io

A lot of serious buyers have a second favorite name lined up should their first choice not be attainable , my advise is to listen to the buyer , they are offering 3k because their budget is 3k , most will pay a little more , I would offer the name at $3,800 and roll
