What a dolt.
Even at his sharpest, when he was still functioning, he was a sack of dull tacks. He has always been a liar, far from smart, and a corrupt politician - and people have always known that about him. Yet in his current feeble condition he was still elected by more votes than even Obama. Without campaigning.

OK.

OK.
Quite a controversial choice, now the Democrats do not have a strong leader like Obama, but people still vote for him despite the fact that life is getting harder with politicians like Biden

There are 3 kinds of corrupt rich people:

1-This who built a fortune based on false promises, misleading advertising, or other immoral practices. Some people put Trump in this category.

2-Even worse are those from the group above who use political influence to become super-wealthy. They buy politicians, who are employed by the taxpayers and supposed to represent the people, to do their bidding and betray the interests of the taxpayers and the people who pay their salaries.

3- The lowest of the low are the politicians themselves who become wealthy by accepting employment from the taxpaying public. They pretend to do their duty as elected employees of protecting the interests of the people, but instead sell the people down the river for their profit and the profit of oligarchs. They are essentially large-scale con artists who undermine the very society they are obliged to protect. Millions are the world die from the actions of these criminals.

So, even if your opinion of Trump is low, he is still leagues away from the corruption that Biden embodies. There is no comparison.

I'm so sorry if I had bothered someone feelings, but
It's a question and I'm asking your opinion ?

For example, in Ukraine we even had an oligarch presiden Poroshenko(from 1998 worked on goverment, top possitions, but in same time he hold a business and it's grew rapidly with political support, he hold a media companies{used it for self promotion} and used gov power for his own needs) before Zelensky shift him.
It's a pity to say but oligarchs influence in Ukraine was and is now huge. They robbed our country.
putin and his fellows are oligarchs as well, as they used whole country power to became rich and hold that power as long as it's possible. They don't care on people. Yes, it's more like some mafia, but it's still other kind of oligarchs. A lot of oligarchs have a criminal background.

In US, as I know mostly used word "Lobbying"
So are there people like Trump or Musk or anyone, oligarchs ?
Are there in US people who became rich with Political Lobbying+ ?
( like their company without auctions got a fat government contact, or their oil company was paying less rent as others/market price ... is this possible in US at all ??? as oligarchs paid not only to political persons, but also to judges, police and other government institutes for benefits for their own needs ... )

Thanks

Certainly people become rich by lobbying, but the US is different from an oligarchy, which, as I understand it, means that the politicians retain control over who becomes rich and who doesn't. In the US, people can become rich without the blessing of the government, but once they become rich they use that money to buy politicians. It also works the other way - if they don't pay off certain political factions or choose a rival faction, they will face investigations, tax audits, and massive "regulatory" fines. But they have a bit more power against the politicians probably because the US government isn't yet as powerful and immune to the demands of the public as governments like Russia yet. They are working on it, though, and making great progress. Soon Stalin would be envious of the state they are building.

The payoffs for helpful government officials and regulators usually come in the form of a comfy and high-paying job in the private sector they formerly "regulated" or, for better-known figures, outrageous lecture fees.

I'd say that "it's more like some mafia" pretty well describes many current governments. Except, unlike a mafia they use a pretty face (or even a doddering old man) to sell their scam to a gullible public.

@bmugford, this is a good read.

“The nine most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’” - Ronald Reagan

With six wavering senators providing a four-vote margin of victory, the final tally stood at 71 to 29—27 Republicans and 44 Democrats joined forces to support cloture. They were opposed by nay votes from six Republicans and 21 Democrats. The Senate's civil rights proponents had achieved a remarkable victory.

Trump Mar-a-Lago suit ends after former president declines to appeal ruling

Former President Donald Trump declined Thursday to appeal a court order ending his lawsuit challenging the FBI’s seizure of documents from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, paving the way for investigators to finally get hold of the bulk of documents collected in the search.

I found this to be an interesting short read (apolitical) ...I thought I'd share:
He is accurate about Rome, but not a deep thinker, which is why his conclusions are off.

"Today the nations with media that have well-funded public broadcasters — Norway, Iceland, Sweden, New Zealand, Finland, Ireland, Canada, Denmark, Australia, Germany, UK, Uruguay — are very strong democracies."

He left out the well-funded public broadcasters of China and Russia. State control over broadcasting is an essential pillar of dictatorships, not democracy, so his thoughts here are total nonsense.

And, like most who have invested themselves emotionally in the Trump saga, he is blind to where the real oppression is coming from. The merging of the corporations and the state were how Mussolini defined fascism. While the mob brays about former president Trump, the criminals currently in office are free to destroy the country and drive the masses into slavery and poverty. They are the magicians telling you to watch the right hand (MAGA and Trump) while they pick your pocket (and for good measure, stick you with a knife) with their left hand.

In those countries you don't get much choice of channels, state channel 1, 2 or 3. Not unbiased, but at least having a public channel can help foster a sense natonal identity. In Canada, it is difficult for the CBC to compete with US broadcasters for an audience. The cable networks in both countries have pretty much sewn it up.

Check out this list of US corporate broadcasters

Who Owns the Media?

...it's a short list.

Yes, just about everyone not on the left understands that the media is a government/billionaire domain. Yet, somehow adding a little more, controlled by the same government but forcefully paid for by hard-working taxpayers, is better? China and Russia both have numerous channels they can watch, not that it makes a difference. With 100s of channels in the USA, the viewers are spoon-fed the same garbage. This is why people like Assange and Snowden are so important.

The BBC and NHK (Japan) are both propaganda tools, though they also produce some good programming. But is it better than many independent programs we can see online via independent media and bloggers - people who are not paid by a billionaire or a government?

I am curious what you mean by national identity as well. Is that really such a desirable thing or is it another tool of the gangsters who run the country?

We Canadians receive so much broadcasting and fake news from the states its difficult, especially for new immigrants, to get their bearings and to cultivate a sense of national identity free from political bias and corporate influence. We don't get into the whole flag waving, uber-patriotic style, orange man thingy.

National identity doesn't mean 'over-the-top' patriotism, it is a shared state of mind, both social and cultural (and not necessarily politically driven).

Speaking of gangsters, isn't it great to have a national leader who posseses both presidential immunity and a corporate shield against any liability from his actions. People like that have no fear of repercussion and do whatever they please, including the "termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution."

How do you like them oranges? :xf.wink:

But, but... what happened to diversity? And, really, how many productive people share wealthy Prince Justin's state of mind?

Of course, we embrace diversity. Canada does not share the same 'melting pot' mentality that USA espouses as we do not have imperialistic ideals; however, we do understand that diversity is what makes Canadian culture both unique and difficult to define.

I was never 'for' Biden, but Trump's notion of "termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution" has the GOP reeling.

Bankman-Fried, FTX’s director of engineering Nishad Singh and co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets Ryan Salame gave $79.8 million to political campaigns and committees from September 2020 to November 2022.

  • Bankman-Fried’s largest donations were $27 million to his own super PAC, which supported Democratic candidates, and $6 million to a PAC that helps elect Democrats to the U.S. House. Bankman-Fried also gave the maximum $5,800 each to support dozens of candidates, mostly Democrats.
  • President Joe Biden’s 2020 run for president was one of the major beneficiaries of Bankman-Fried’s donations. Bankman-Fried gave $5 million to a PAC that supported President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign, $50,000 to Biden Victory Fund, and $2,800 directly to Biden for President.
  • Singh gave $2.3 million to a Democratic-leaning super PAC called Women Vote! and $2 million to a PAC that helps elect Democrats to the U.S. Senate. Other donations included $1 million to the same PAC that supported Biden’s campaign, and $1 million to Bankman-Fried’s super PAC that supported Democratic candidates.
  • Salame’s biggest donations were $15 million to his own super PAC that supported Republican candidates, $2.5 million to a PAC that helps elect Republicans to the U.S. Senate, and $2 million to a PAC that helps elect Republicans to the U.S. House.
